I really dont want to write this. Because putting this into words, makes it all that more real. Also, because there are truly no words that describe how amazing my dad is. And yes, I am using present tense bc I know that every single one of you in this room, are carrying some sort of wisdom, laughter, or knowledge from my dad on with you. Also, I still don’t want this to be real. The past few years, my dad would say “I hope you don’t remember me like this,” and a few months ago, my mom asked me to write down memories from before he got sick for him to read. I know this sounds like an easy task, I have a million happy memories with my dad, that was not the issue. The truth is, even though I could see physically what MSA was doing to him, my image of my dad never changed. He is the strongest, smartest, funniest, kindest, generous & most genuine person. You see, this list was impossible for me to write, because even now (at a service he planned entirely on his own), all of that is still true. Despite having a disease I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, my image of my dad never changed. And while I hated not being able to help him, because my dad could solve everything, he never stopped being my hero. As much as I am devastated, In the spirit of my dad I know I should be grateful. I am truly the luckiest girl in the world, being raised by him. I had 32 years on this planet, getting to talk to my dad almost every day. My dad always seemed to know the answer to everything. There was not a topic he couldn’t advise me on (minus crypto but he was consistently on the mark with telling me to sell, the day after, it would always pump). Even so, I always listened to him. And even with everything else he had to do, he made time for everyone. I’ve lost count of how many of my friends have gotten advice from my dad. To be honest, my dad is the coolest part of me. I don’t even need to say this, because if you are here, you know. He could make anyone laugh in any situation, while still imparting knowledge, love and respect. He taught me the important things in life are the people we love, family, honoring commitments, helping others & giving back. So as angry and sad as we may be today, I know he is happy we are all together, talking, sharing, laughing, learning and loving. He wants us to be here for each other, and for others. even MSA this stupid FUCKING disease (and yes, fuck it) is so lucky to have my dad. Himself and all of you have given so much whether it be donations, or raising awareness. He even gave his brain, and since his brain has held the key to everything we have ever needed, I am hoping that with all of you, a cure is unlocked and no one else has to suffer. He is still doing the most, in the best way. My dad is the definition of hard work. No matter how many hours he was working, flights he had to take, or calls he had to make, he still showed up to almost all of my sports games, had time to take me to sports games, and managed to know the score of every game in every league & every sport. I have so many memories going to nats games. Growing up sports were synonymous with family and love. So much so I studied sports management, and even interned at the Mets. And while my career took a different path, it turns out caps players go to the rave, so it all worked out. Even though the career path I ended up taking could not have been further than that of a DC lawyer, my dad still understood me - he understood the nonstop travel, late hours, and driving passion, and was endlessly curious to learn more about my crazy world. And since I know not many of you are on the blockchain, you also have to add artist to his repertoire. Whether via painting and AI creations, my dad had the unique ability to achieve anything he set his mind to. And if it was something that I loved, that meant he’d ALWAYS give it a chance. My dad is also airline status goals. I am so grateful I got to see the world with him, and in turn, see the world like him. From baseball games in Dominican republic, synagoges in Morocco, or villages in South Africa, he made sure we always saw the true culture of a place. His sense adventure always brought a new perspective to life. Sometimes quite literally (like when he jumped off the highest bungee bridge in South Africa). I mean who besides my dad could say to trust them to jump off a bridge. That it would be okay, and it was. Wherever I went in the world, my dad had recommendations. In 2019, I was going to Australia for work, an occasion that I went somewhere before him. He said he had to be “close” in Hong Kong a few days later (close is an 8 hour flight). So he met me in Australia and I joined him in HK. We did something so rare for us, took a few days off to explore Australia between both of our work trips. He always asks waiters for their favorites in restaurants, a habit which has brought me some amazing (and some questionable) meals. But once again, I am so lucky. I not only grew up learning from his influence, but knowing to open my mind and heart to everyone, thing, and place I encountered. My dad will always be my hero. My best friend. (Though I am sure alot of you also feel that way). Every time I came back to DC the past few years, even in a time of limited social interactions, the door was revolving with people coming to hang with my dad. Hes the coolest. Somehow, my dad fit 48 hours of time in every single day. A true, real-life superhero. If only I inherited the skill of manipulating time. I know we all want more time, one more call, one more hug. but my dad was always thinking of everyone else. and yes this is probably still a note to myself, but we need to be grateful he is no longer in pain. He wasn’t meant to be bound to one place. So please, remember my dad. share with each other. share with me. If we start to feel a day is empty without talking to him, talk about him. Give back to others. Call someone and tell them you love them. Take the random flight. The unknown road. Go to a restaurant and let the waiter order for you. My dad and I ended every phone call telling each other we loved each other. And so it seems only fair to end this with love. (Unless you are a Dallas cowboys fan, because then we have to love your opponent). Thank you for being a part of my dads life, and keeping his stories alive. We are all so lucky, to have ended up in the same life as him.
