@hipearlrose @DeRushaJ Yet in this case Frey is actually trying to do something to fix the city (like Zohran) and the democratic socialists in the city council are the clowns making resolutions about Cuba.

10 yrs ago, Mpls Pub Schools had ~36,000 students, 6k staff, 73 total sites & an Operations budget of $557M. This yr, MPS has ~29k students, 6k staff, 73 sites & a proposed Ops budget of $719M. To summarize: enrollment is down 20%, budgets are up 30% & that's why MPS is broke. 1/

“I couldn’t lose even if I didn’t show up to work.” “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters.”

@Tokesq @NickKruse_ I won three elections and passed some of the most meaningful housing policy in the city’s history. I increased homeownership and commercial ownership greatly during my tenure. I was only ever leaving when I was ready to go.

@jbarro @TPCarney Schools in America are struggling enough with language and math skills, imagine wanting them to take time away from that because a bunch of boomers want their grandkids to be able to write them a letter in cursive.

Amazing. Warren is deliberating trying to choke off investment in the construction of *new* single-family rental properties. This is profoundly regressive. Why is it OK for large investors to build and rent out apartments but not single-family homes? Many working-class Americans don't have high enough incomes or credit scores to buy a home. If we cut off investment in rental houses, then these families won't be able to live in large swathes of America: Roughly 70 percent of all residential land is zoned for single-family residences. The only way for working-class people to live in many affluent suburbs -- and access their high-performing schools -- is to rent a house. For this reason, corporate investment in single-family homes reduces socioeconomic segregation. Warren's policy effectively helps rich people keep working-class renters out of their towns -- while reducing the overall supply of housing and nudging up rents. It prioritizes populist symbolism over progressive outcomes.
Igor Bobic@igorbobic

Warren says the housing bill does *not* have a drafting error, as Schatz said today Rare Dem leadership split “The policy is to block private equity from taking over the single family home, and that is quite deliberate. There are some folks in private equity who don't like that, but it's a very deliberate choice that is supported on a bipartisan basis by 90 senators.”

I know airlines might think like this, but it would be a huge mistake. If you seat me separate from my kids, I'm going to just put my kids in the seats around me anyways, and when the person who paid for them comes up, my kids are gonna make sad eyes and I'll ask "Do you mind switching?" and people usually just say yes. actually, it's even more ridiculous: when I check in, I just ask the person at the counter, "We've been seated separately, any way you could put us together?" and then they almost always do it for free! but it involved making all the people checking bags behind me wait for 5 minutes while the clerk rearranges seats. airlines could save everybody time and frustration by just seating families together.
Billy Binion@billybinion

It's not weird. Airline profit margins are *tiny.* I find it frustrating too. But if you want an aisle seat—or if you want to sit with your kids/friends/whoever—you aren't entitled to it for free just because you want it.

Some crazy details about fraud at Minnesota’s autism centers: -State workers were not legally allowed to make unannounced site visits because the autism centers were not required to be licensed -Now that licensing is required, only 6 of the 500 autism centers have applied so far -Anyone over 18 with some online training can be a level-3 autism provider, offering “medical services”
