Wide gap in limited-service restaurant chain performance in 1Q. Easy comparisons helped some chains. And a lot of these companies (Starbucks, Burger King, EPL Noodles) are in the midst of revitalization strategies. When consumers are cutting back, they get picky, and go for the brands with better value, marketing and, most importantly, operations. But huge gaps between competitors, notably the 1,360-bp gap between Burger King and Wendy's. Some surprising results from El Pollo Loco and Habit, in particular. KFC's numbers are global because Yum won't give us the U.S. numbers.
