@dawn_luedtke People keep comparing it to a typical winter storm, but ice storms are a different beast. You can’t just “plow” it away — it takes loaders, saw crews, salt, time, and a ton of manpower. Even well-run cities would struggle unless they’re built for extreme winter conditions.

In 2016, MCPS opened sooner than this after 30 inches of snow.
MoCo should always be improving. It’s hard to argue this is anything but worse. The Council will have a Tuesday briefing on what went wrong. I hope all involved, including MCPS, are ready with solutions.

I walked a good distance yesterday and the sidewalks around the schools were clear but many, many homeowners were derelict and had not shoveled anything. I’m especially looking you, the owners of end units who did none of their corners.

Hey Washington: @dcpublicschools are on a 2-hour delay again tomorrow. This gives those of you who have kids that walk by on their way to and from school to ensure your sidewalk is clear. You know who you are. Go grab a shovel - and pick ax or chain saw to break through the ice - and get started.
