building [@onchainotakus] has been my best execution in community building. it started as spaces to chill and discuss anime, but now it's a family and a culture. our shared purpose is to connect, help, bond, and support each other. our x community is live too. 🍙 (link in cs)

the 15k would have been well spent on building a good website that doesn’t make you look vibe-coded. but nope. “let’s host a video contest with massive volume of entries where people explain what we do, even if we can’t articulate it ourselves” absolute dark cinema

@martinsbuilds I once did a poll for what makes people bullish on NFTs, and utility came out on top of arts, community and culture.

Due to the recent amount of hyped NFTs that have launched and failed these days. it’s clear that hype and art can’t save NFT. Here are a list of 5 things that can still save NFT projects + bonus (0$ budget) • active founder and team • storytelling • a retention plan • constant communication and updates • consistency might sound generic, cause truthfully this is what everyone preaches but it’s still the biggest solutions to a lot of problems the NFT industry is facing. ‘oh the bonus’ • me🩶

I wrote this post before finishing The Alchemist. then I stopped myself. because I was about to tell you social proof works, using a book I hadn't actually verified was good. well that would've been pretty ironic. so I finished it. confirmed everything. then came back to write this. what caught my attention: - the international acclaim. - a former U.S. president photographed with it. - Madonna. - Will Smith. all talking about one book. I didn't need further convincing, for I was already sold. that's peak social proof. and it works because the product underneath it was real. if The Alchemist was mid, none of that would've mattered. the social proof would've collapsed under the weight of a bad product. same thing happens in web3 every cycle. projects stack "tactics" on a shaky foundation and wonder why nothing sticks. because tactics amplify what's already there, whether good or bad. build something real. build a narrative that pulls the right people in. then let social proof do its job. the formula only works in that order. ps. if you haven't read it, I recommend 🦉🍀

The most dangerous thing a product can be is relevant to everyone. I once asked a founder this question: Who is your product not for? Silence... And you know what, that silence is costing companies millions. Bloated sales cycles. Marketing spend that goes nowhere. Prospects who just don't care. A product that wins don't try to be everything. They cut deliberately. They make someone feel seen by making someone else feel excluded. That's how positioning works. Not everywhere. One repositioning I worked on for a project fired 60% of their target market on purpose. Terrifying move but that indeed is the right move. Positioning isn't about what your product does. It's about who it is unmistakably for. Most teams never answer that question honestly. And that's exactly why their marketing never lands. Selah. (p.s: ignore the video, just me flexing... hahahaaa)

If you are a community founder I advise you to focus on these things to build a great community culture: 1. Set the bar high for collabs and wins. Excellence attracts excellence, mid attracts mid. 2. Acquiring members is easy. Keeping them is the real game. 3. Make it fun. No one sticks around a community that feels like a job. 4. Build it scalable & sustainable; hype dies, systems don't. 5. It has to be bigger than you. Not with your name. If it dies when you leave, you built a group chat, not a community. 6. Protect your culture violently; one toxic member costs you ten good ones. 7. Reward contributors, not grinders or chasers. 8. Create rituals, weekly calls, traditions, inside jokes. That's what makes people stay. 9. Your most loyal members are your best recruiters. Treat them like it. 10. If someone called Pucci wants to join, never invite him. Big mistake. 11. Be present. Communities feel when the founder checks out & read messages. 12. If someone's PFP is an anime girl, careful 3x. 13. Build systems, not dependency; if you disappear for a week, it should still run. 14. Give people roles and ownership. People fight for what they helped build. 15. Every community has that one guy who only shows up for giveaways. Deal with him. 16. If a member says "I'm not here for the money," they're 100% here for the money. 17. Purge regularly. A smaller engaged community beats a large dead one every time. 18. The person who types the most in general chat is either your MVP or needs to go outside. Sometimes both. 19. The moment someone says "this community is like family", congrats, you made it. Or they're about to ask for a loan ... 20. Document everything, onboarding, rules, culture, SOPs, to save your time later. 21. Celebrate wins publicly, handle problems privately.
