Intriguingly, iRAPs carrying a mutation in Hermansky Pudlak Syndrome 1 (HPS1), a highly penetrant mutation associated with IPF, showed impaired differentiation and recruited fibroblasts in co-culture, suggesting a direct link between RAPs and pulmonary fibrosis.

We are excited to share our work out this week in Nature Biotechnology. We generate from pluripotent stem cells induced respiratory airways progenitors (iRAPs), a novel cell type that is increasingly being appreciated for its ability to regenerate the distal lung.
