@CTVNews You seem scared. Anyway, here's a possible exclave of independent Alberta (delineated by the red lines). #NewManitoba The rest of MB can separate too, Winnipeg and the north can remain in Canada proper.

@jjoseph632 @DavidJPba Abortion should not be a decision for the prospective AB fedgov to make anyway, it (and criminal justice) should be decided locally.

This will be the most incredible seven months of our lives Albertans. The most consequential in our history. A Seperation Referendum has the potential to be the birth of a nation. Think about that, you could be part of foundig nation. What greater dream could a people dream?

"Come on guys! Why aren't you moving to the "Free State"? You know the one where we support state police enforcing state borders. We're all about freedom here... The freedom to get murdered by state agents of course. You're not a real anarchist if you're not a pro-state collectivist living with us. Why isnt everyone moving already???" 🤣 gtfoh Texas might be filled with republican enemies of liberty too, but at least they're not charlatan entryist subversives.

@TerryHethering9 All cops in a statist society are government owned, whether AB police or RCMP. Policing (and criminal justice) must be a local matter post-Wexit.

Schools should be focused on teaching kids how to think, not what to think. Classrooms must be an impartial learning environment that prioritize teaching fundamentals like reading, math and science and support students in developing their own opinions and views. Our students and educators need to be safe in the classroom. We will be strengthening the Education Act to protect them from incidents of violence and aggression with clear standards and expectations. School boards will be held accountable if those standards are not followed.

@scott_robb @GlobalEdmonton I agree. Smith should be demanding full control over criminal justice (law, procedure, judge appts) at a minimum. A post-Wexit west must go even further and divide Alberta into cantons, which must have complete control over criminal justice.

@GlobalEdmonton Dumbass Smith is too stupid to understand that Canada is a provincial system which means all political power is centralized within the Federal Government and it only delegates authorities to provinces as it sees fit! Provinces, by definition, DO NOT HAVE STATE RIGHTS

@FischerKing64 The Civil War didn’t legally settle secession, it was an act of violence. Breaking into someone’s house and stealing their valuables is not legally settling ownership.

This is an interesting secession issue. Reminder that when the Southern American states seceded it was an open question legally - no one knew the answer. Killing 300k southern soldiers answered it. The Canadian Supreme Court has ruled secession is illegal. Will Toronto invade Alberta? I don’t think so, but who knows.

🚨BREAKING: The 177,000 signature threshold has now been passed, officially clearing the requirement for an Alberta independence referendum on October 19th. This is a historic moment for Alberta and signature collection is still continuing.

@ABDanielleSmith A “formal role?” Not full control? You’re going to the barricades just to give Ottawa slightly less power over judicial appointments?!?!?!?!?! If you want to amend the Constitution why don’t you demand that criminal justice become provincial jurisdiction?

Alberta is responsible for how justice is delivered in this province but has no direct role in appointing the judges who serve on our courts. Those judges make decisions that affect Albertans every day, and they should understand the communities and province they serve.   Alberta is calling for a constitutional amendment to give the province a formal role in superior court appointments.   We are calling on all parties and Members of Parliament to support it. See more details of our proposed legislation here: alberta.ca/release.cfm?xI…

I asked a simple question. What if Canada can still be fixed?Their answer was immediate… and detailed. These women have looked into it. Not just headlines, but how the system actually works. And what they explained makes it clear why so many Albertans are losing faith in the idea of “just voting harder.” To change anything meaningful in Canada, you’re not just voting in a new government. You’re trying to change the Constitution. That means multiple provinces have to agree, including Quebec, which effectively holds a veto. On top of that, you’re dealing with a federal government that can consolidate power, a Senate that isn’t elected and doesn’t represent Alberta proportionally, and a Supreme Court that ultimately interprets all of it. Even if the West votes overwhelmingly for change, it doesn’t translate into actual power. The structure itself blocks it.That’s the reality they’re responding to.This isn’t about apathy. It’s about understanding the system well enough to see its limits. There is no realistic path where Alberta just votes harder and suddenly gets the changes it needs. That’s why they kept coming back to the same conclusion. The referendum is the only way forward. Not as a protest. Not as a threat. But as a way for Albertans to finally make a decision for themselves, instead of being permanently outvoted inside a system they can’t meaningfully change. At a certain point, the question stops being “Can Canada be fixed?” And becomes…What do you do when it can’t?

This weekend, NDP members elected self-declared “eco-socialist” Avi Lewis @avilewis as their leader. Lewis has called for a full ban on new pipelines and all fossil fuel development, at a time when the world needs Alberta energy more than ever. And while Naheed Nenshi @nenshi may try to distance himself, the Alberta NDP’s own constitution makes clear they are tied to the federal party. The truth is, the Alberta NDP has a long track record of opposing pipelines and energy development. Their extreme views are a danger to jobs and affordability. The UCP will never stop fighting against radical forces, including the Alberta NDP, who want to shut down our economy and keep our resources in the ground.

So @GavinNewsom is now also on the record supporting compulsory service for young people. No, absolutely not. And voters should reject anyone who thinks it is ok to force our children to be slaves to the state. It is not the American way, and Libertarians will never ask you to serve without your consent. Hell No!
