@Reichucapic @senny_mathis Learning and mastering the mechanics of a game is quite literally how to interact with it as art. To ignore all of its mechanics and try to force it to play like "a jrpg im used to" is way more in line with an anti-art attitude

Whats also funny about this is that it is a classic "what you should strive for as a player" character model. Just like seeing Bayonetta and Dante doing cool shit in the cutscenes should make *you* want to master the game enough to do that

@AHalfNickel People want turnbased with modern graphics and stories with cutscenes. I love all the turn based games I've played on PS4/PS5 but I see what they mean. Last time I saw something similar to FF turn based was Lost Odyssey besides Expedition 33.

@SMSamuel274752 @TigoODonnell I love that game but the problem is that parrying is absolutely inarguably game breaking. Your investment in the RPG systems literally do not matter when you can simply just ignore literally all forms of incoming damage.

I think these combat systems being boring without a parry is the important part. Parrying at its worst and most commonly used dilutes both offensive and defensive options due to how strong a system it is, as well as aspects such as positioning being reduced.

i see people complaning about parryingh and i *get* the issue but people kinda dont' notice that most of these games would have had a pretty boring combat system anyway, adding a parry genuinely makes them better and while i wish they did more, i feel like this is a net positive

The idea of having the soundtrack play a part in the fight was cool (switching to YOUR track) but otherwise the actual fighting gameplay took a big step back

I think the strength of the game is the fact that their relationship exists to better serve the gameplay. The focus is on the player and their ability and if they had friction for the sake of it thered be ludonarrative dissonance

Whats also so cool about this is the variety. Social sims, tactical rpgs, casual sports, souls. Even if Im not into a particular title personally Im glad it exists and just that alone might get me to try something outside of my comfort zone

Pragmata discourse is a bleak reminder that talking about video games on here like a normal person is a myth. It’s also such a shame that the gameplay of Pragmata is not being talked about to the same extent because I think it carries the whole game, especially the combat
