@derek12650901 This is a downsampled image for distribution on Social Media. The full-resolution full disk image is 55.2mb, 21696x21696px @ 72dpi. Downsampling + image compression will do that.

@SoCalWXwatcher why is the edge of the earth pixelated in the GOES images?

Nice full-disk view of the Earth from GOES-16 today. If you look closely you can see the Marine Layer doing its "May Gray" thing over #SoCal Coastal areas. A typical sight for this time of year.

Here's @NOAASatellites #GOES16 today at local satellite noon (19:00UTC) with the CIMSS Natural Color enhancement. GOES-16 is out of storage for testing for about 2 weeks. Happy #FullDiskFriday!

Windy with elevated to brief critical #FireWx conditions this weekend:
* W-NW winds gusting 35-50 MPH interior sections and western Santa Ynez Mountains
* Min RH 8-15% interior sections except 20-30% SW #SantaBarbara county
* High risk of fast-moving grass/shrub fires.

What does #ElNiño really mean for California winter precipitation? In short: it depends on how strong El Niño becomes. Weak events exert only a negligible influence, but strong ones can profoundly increase the likelihood of wet winters and heavy downpours. youtu.be/JxQGuoDfovo

'Tis the "May Gray" season - Low Clouds push inland during the overnight hours and linger well into the morning before daytime heating "burns" them off. The cycle repeats again overnight. This will be a common pattern through the next several weeks, which is typical for late Spring in #SoCal. #CAwx

@craigmatthews48 @BenNollWeather @washingtonpost And the waters to the North of the Niño region are warmer than even in 2015, which at the time was impressively warm overall compared to previous events.
English

@SoCalWXwatcher @BenNollWeather @washingtonpost Notice that the west tail of +ssta associated with El Nino is greater in the Nino 4 region in the forecast for 2026 vs 2015. That area had somewhere between neutral and even negative ssta in 1877-78, 1982-83, and even 1997-98. There has been a westward tug on ENSO since 1997-98
English

@craigmatthews48 @BenNollWeather @washingtonpost Looks like a lot more warmth is expected in the Niño 3 & Niño 1+2 regions with this event compared to 2015.
But the Eastern Pacific looks to be warmer overall this time compared to any of the previous events, so perhaps less of a temperature gradient to work with.

English

@BenNollWeather @washingtonpost Amazing how much cooler sstas were in the WPAC during the 1877-78 event. This forecasted one looks a little more west based than that one to me....more like 2015-16.

A rapidly increasing onshore flow and eddy circulation has deepened the marine layer which will cause significant cooling to the valleys and Inland Empire of Southern California today…

@realwxforecast @imetrich @intouchLiveHQ Yep, lots of hype going on right now. That said, if this one turns out to be East-based, it likely won't be a dud for SoCal like the 2015-16 event was.
English

The infographics on the upcoming #elnino are beyond........
Again, listen to @imetrich and me on the @intouchLiveHQ podcast. We discuss the #elnino and temper the hype!!

We could be heading for a +3°C “Godzilla” super El Niño so fasten your seatbelts. On top of long-term global warming, this could push parts of the climate system into completely new territory. The Pacific is warming at record rates.
English

@realwxforecast Looks like there’s a chance that weak onshore flow may mitigate the heat along the coast, but valleys are probably going to get plenty of heat.
English

@SoCalWXwatcher Yup. Same setup as March.....brutal heatwave coming out west folks!!!

A series of Cutoff Low Pressure Systems will move through California over the next several days, but these late-season systems will not have much moisture to work with. There will be a chance for some light showers across #SoCal Sunday PM through Monday PM, but most locations will remain dry. #CAwx
