Can we talk about something? There is a serious breakdown of norms in how the @nytimes has chosen to report this information about @Meta. We think people should know about it. If only we could appeal to the Public Editor, but Times eliminated that role many years ago.

Instagram changed my username today to this bootleg name after having @john on there for the past 4 years with no explanation. Not sure why I even have the bootleg app but Meta’s truly does not care about their users. Nobody there replies with reasoning.

@facebook @Meta @instagram Every attempt at using metas reporting forms has left me with no success. Even till now I can not get the hackers email off my original account. Any settings I change the hacker is notified of. Indicating this was 100% done by an employee at Meta or Instagram

@facebook @Meta @instagram After asking around for help a friend had found the hackers with the username. The hackers are now demanding 15,000$ usd for return of the username. I’ve exhausted every recovery form and support channel available with no success. Even though a rogue employee is behind this.

No notifications were sent to me about changes to my Instagram account. Normally, IG notifies you of any settings changes (Image Attached). However, someone removed/added an email, signed in another country/device without 2FA, and changed the username 5x—all without notifying the original email. This suggests possible insider involvement at Meta/IG.

@facebook @Meta @instagram On July 23, 2025, an attacker hijacked the @low account, stole the handle, moved it to another account, then disabled it—locking the username. They changed the original account’s username 5x to block reversions. No notifications, no 2FA triggered. Inside job?

@facebook @Meta @instagram I’ve had the instagram account @low for 12+ years. It’s pretty sought after so I have been SIM swapped for it in the past. I get loads of spam, password reset/ login attempt emails etc. So I have it protected with a strong random password and 2 factor auth.

Just found an old $100 @Visa gift card that I got earlier this year that I activated and never used. I went to check the balance and it’s down to like $60 because they take a $4 monthly fee out every month... That has to be illegal or something right???

Having a low car is probably one of the worst decisions I’ve made in a long time. Would NOT recommend unless you want to clench your ass cheeks every single time you see a pothole and pray your engine doesn’t explode from hitting one at 10MPH.
