URGENT FROM FB💔💔💔💔💔 Day 1 of Posting Velcro Until He Finds His People. 5 Days Left. For the first time in over 6 months, Velcro slept in a home instead of a shelter kennel. For the first time in over 6 months, he woke up somewhere quiet. Somewhere peaceful. Somewhere he could finally begin to breathe again. But to be honest, his first night was heartbreaking. Velcro wasn’t destructive. He wasn’t barking or bouncing off the walls. That’s not who he is. Instead, he paced almost the entire night, unable to settle. The same pacing we’ve recently started seeing more and more at the shelter. After 6+ months in a kennel, Velcro has forgotten how to relax. Forgotten how to just be a dog. But even while overwhelmed, he has been so incredibly gentle. He allowed his foster parents to bathe him, is doing AMAZING in the crate, and has already started showing small signs of improvement after just 24 hours out of the shelter. His foster says he walks beautifully on leash, especially for a 70-pound shepherd mix. He has had a couple accidents in the home, but after spending over half a year living in a kennel without a single break, that’s honestly not surprising. He seems to really crave structure, routine, and a quiet place to decompress. The problem is…this foster can only keep him until Monday, May 18. This means Velcro is supposed to go back to the shelter in 5 days. We desperately want to prevent that from happening. Velcro is around 5–6 years old, dog friendly, and does best with calm dogs who respect his space. He would benefit from a quieter home with slow introductions and time to decompress. He’d likely do best with older children. He has not been around cats. He is also heartworm positive, but treatment is provided by the shelter free of charge, and heartworms are NOT contagious to other pets or people. Velcro is the dog who changed the way I viewed shepherds. Despite everything he’s been through, he has remained gentle, easy to handle, and endlessly kind He’s trying so hard not to break. Please help us find Velcro somewhere to go before Monday. Long-term foster or adopter needed.
