A 2D fighter where instead of fighting other fighters, you fight giant boss monsters. Not new, just seriously under done. Only one other game I know of on Steam that does it, and it's an old arcade game.

My most maverick take on this discourse is that Waddle Dee WITHOUT BANDANA would make for a fitting Smash fighter, and it wouldn't even be weird. Like, if it happened in Melee, no one would bat an eye.

@SockTalking im just saying i dont believe this approach is realistic. is that truly a meaningful enough connection to base a moveset off of? i mean, bowser has a whole army and he doesnt use a single one in his moveset. i think sakurai has a much different philosophy for designing movesets

@james912f4 Every ARMS fighter plays fundamentally different from the others (even Spring-Tron). None of them are gonna be echoes of each other. Min Min kicks and has a dragon buff in her left arm. Ninjara teleports.

@SockTalking Ninjara was a scrapped character for ultimate because Sakurai choosed him but the creator of arms choosed min min instead, so he probably get's in as a echo fighter

NST came out of mothballs to make 99. It gets updates & special events to this day. Legacy series like Metroid Starfox, and DKC get bold new releases.
I'm betting we see new mainline F-Zero before ARMS 2 lol

Olimar is a shadow of himself in Smash. Bowser, DK, & Wario are flanderized based on his view of them.
If he was a Pikmin fan, he'd recognize Louie’s connection to PNF-404's creatures & his conquering spirit (he's cooked them all)

@SockTalking i think having a moveset like you suggested would be genuinely fantastic, but louie is only truly connected to the titan dweevil and the final boss in 4 (forgot that guys name oops). as cool as it would be, i don’t think that’s how sakurai approaches moveset design

@dazantDazant No, but this pitch IS Louie’s character. The final boss of Pikmin 2, the mischief he pulled in 3, the kidnapping of the koppaites, wicked dandori skills, and yet another final boss fight in 4.
This is moveset is just as much "references" as Bowser Jr. getting the clown car.

@SockTalking i do like this idea a lot, but it’s been kinda clear that this would not be the direction they’d take for a hypothetical louie moveset. they seem more keen on finding out how characters would realistically fight, rather than jamming the moveset full of references

@SockTalking love pikmin but i don’t think it needs another rep. olimar is a great representation of the pikmin series as a whole and i don’t think any other character would really add anything. at most louie as an echo maybe

Sunset isn't art, but if it's captured in painting, or photo, or song, or choreography, etc. & so on; that's a WORK of art.
Animals can WORK, but they can't communicate rationally, so their paintings aren't works "of art" just works.
AI can't "do" anything. No autonomy. No art.

@SockTalking well pokemon gets to have it cause it’s the most popular ip in the world. and sakurai still owes an outstanding doubt to intelligent systems so thats another reason why they get the same treatment also. and tbh calling arms a franchise is being way too generous tbh. we’ll see tho
