The song “Puttin on a Ritz” is a classic American song about white voyeurism of going to the Black side of town to watch Black people act like they got money for fun… it’s been remade several times with the most popular version being by Taco who does blackface in the video

During the Harlem Renaissance, white folks loved to “slum” in working-class, Black spaces where queer life thrived in NYC. They did the same thing in Chicago, Memphis, and NOLA. So, yes, domestic sex tourism was/is a thing in the metropolis.

this was probably said in jest but what if we thought of the metropolis as a variant of sexual tourism? perhaps, gentrification and displacement coalesce as a sexually forced migration or sexual dispossession.
