@SolarImager

I do the stupid things so you don't have to, like point a telescope at the sun! Do not do this at home!

I keep neglecting X, but here is a recap of some memorable solar moments from this year to date. The year isn't out just yet so hopefully there will be more to come!

@SolarImager It won’t do anything. As usual, it’s all talk and no action. Too many clear days for the sun to do anything good. It’ll wait until December when 80% of the Northern 1/3 of US is covered in clouds.

All this potential… for nothing, so far.

@SolarImager Thanks for response! Was Gemini in chromosphere or prominence "mode". I'm trying to decide which one to get, and I see that folks mostly go with chromosphere models. I currently own Lunt 50mm B600 that I want to sell and get Daystar instead.

Hovering high above the sun's chromosphere, a detached solar prominence is held in place by magnetic forces invisible to the eye.

@GeorgeSpaceX I used a Sky Watcher Evostar 150DX and a Daystar Gemini with some other pieces. The full disc shot was done with the Heliostar 76

@SolarImager Great time-lapse! Could you share the equipment that was used?

The other day I was able to catch an M Class solar flare from an active region pointed directly at Earth. A noticeable shockwave can be observed followed by a CME, which will hit us sometime Thursday night into Friday. Don't expect magical lights however as a near full moon is going to drown out any faint glow.

Solar Prominences domain one side of the Sun. This is a short time lapse with each part being 60 minutes, compressed down to 10 seconds.

Weather is slowly starting to get better for doing solar imaging finally. Hoping that this year is going to produce some cracking images and time lapses.

@AJamesMcCarthy I'm gonna watch this launch with binoculars, sometimes i spend too much time behind a camera and i don't actually look up.

I’m glad I don’t have neighbors over this fence, would make my backyard launch photography a bit awkward

I can’t resist mosaicking all my shots. It’s like a curse. Have you ever seen a gigapixel photo of a rocket at liftoff? If you’re on my email list you’ll see it within the next couple hours, along with more details of how it was taken.

Not the best of sessions, weather has been on and off these past few weeks. One moment, it's sunshine and blue skies, the next is grey and cloudy. Looks like the weekend might be a better run.

A small C Class flare popped up on the sun this morning. This time lapse is over the span of 90 minutes with each capture taken 10 seconds apart.
