Confession: I’m deeply envious of journalists who have the luxury/privilege of working solely on the quality of their reporting & who never have to worry about the soul crushing task of making sure good reporting gets an audience in an attention economy dominated by clickslop.

The irony is thick given just yesterday Commissioner Van der Vaart was seen perusing his phone during witness testimony in Raleigh.

Feels like a violation of the NC Open Meetings Law. The public and media are allowed to record, take photos and videos of government meetings. Would need to run it by a media law lawyer and double check the statutes to be certain.

How he left deserves to be questioned. He deserves to be questioned for saying first contact was made on Wednesday when Boo Corrigan said his resignation came Wednesday AM. If any other coach did that and came to the school I was covering, I would ask about it, too.

Aggregating other news stories, scanning press releases for newsworthy nuggets, cross checking with sources, checking facts, writing it all up… that was my job as a junior reporter for many many years.
