Somalis have chosen to fragment Somalia, over and over and over again. Somalilanders, and increasingly Puntlanders and Jubalanders, are normalizing separatism from the corrupt and incompetent regime in Mogadishu. The rest of us are just noticing this terribly obvious fact.

Spoken like a white colonizer convinced he knows what’s best for poor Africans better than Africans themselves. People like you always frame African sovereignty, unity, and self-determination as “unrealistic,” while fragmentation, dependency, and foreign managed instability are presented as pragmatic. It is the same colonizing mindset repackaged in think tank language. America officially recognizes one Somalia and its territorial integrity, yet voices like yours constantly undermine that position by normalizing separatism and portraying Somali nationhood as illegitimate. Africans do not need outsiders deciding which states deserve unity and which should be broken apart for geopolitical convenience. We have seen this script before weaken institutions, empower proxies, exploit instability, secure strategic access, then lecture Africans about “reality” from thousands of miles away. And many of us fully recognize how these policies intersect with broader expansionist agendas in the region that benefit from fractured Muslim and African nations unable to exercise independent political and economic power across the Red Sea and Horn of Africa. Somalia’s problems are real. But the solution is not colonial-style fragmentation marketed as diplomacy. The solution is sovereignty, accountability, development, and national cohesion - led by Somalis, not foreign policy operatives who profit from instability while never living through its consequences. Somaliland is friendly with the US and Israel, and is even preparing to open its embassy in Jerusalem, but the US administration won't even officially acknowledge Somaliland's existence.

Many of the prominent figures involved operate from Kenya, Canada, the United States, and European capitals, serving the interests of external powers rather than the Somali people. These groups lack genuine public support on the ground and have built their political ambitions around personal interests and the pursuit of power. That is precisely why they avoid genuine democratic legitimacy and free elections. Their agenda does not reflect the interests of the Somali people, but rather the regional ambitions of the UAE and Israel. What is taking place in Somalia today is not merely a political struggle; it is also a struggle against foreign interference and against those seeking to reshape the region according to outside interests.
