If you tax Peter Thiel out of your state, don’t come crying when your population of guys 18 year olds with single digit body fat quickly grows out of your control. It’s almost like we need predators to keep our ecosystems in check 🙄
@jason@Jason

It’s not a tax, you’re confiscating 5% of people’s assets — which is illegal and will be overturned eventually Powerful people have a choice of where to live and operate from, and California is driving the best and brightest out of the state Message received!

one of the fundamental problems with democracy is that the only proper response to this as a developing nation is to literally send in the troops and beat the shit out of them until it stops

Bolivia's workers unions announce an indefinite general strike against the neoliberal austerity measures announced this week. No dialogue or negotiation, all the measures must be repealed first. No honeymoon period for the right-wing govt.

I need a really hostile profile on Susie Wiles that doesn’t even entertain any of the ice queen bullshit and correctly frames her as the person overseeing one of the greatest political collapses in modern history.

The dirty little secret about grade inflation is that to fix it would require overcoming a massive coordination problem because practically every aspect of our educational system is designed to encourage it.
Matthew Zeitlin@MattZeitlin

the ucsd story was way worse than what i gleaned from the tweets, a whole public education pathway appears to have broken down because it's optimized around not having the appearance of inequity instead of teaching people things

These unhinged activists, who represent a small fraction of the overall “ai safety community,” are on criminal trial for trespassing at OpenAI’s HQ. Now they are proudly sharing that the public defender in their trial recently leapt on stage at an event where Sam Altman was speaking so as to serve Altman a subpoena. Their goal appears to be to force Altman to appear in their trial so they can performatively ask him questions unrelated to whether or not they trespassed on private property. But obviously, when the public defender first jumped on stage, almost everyone in the audience had the same thought—and it wasn’t that a subpoena was about to be served. While there is no indication that anyone here had violent intent, it would not surprise me to see these lunatics begin attempting violence toward AI industry figures someday. They believe, after all, that anyone who wants to advance AI is attempting to murder every human being on earth. This thought has occurred to me many times about this radical sect of AI safety. I have hesitated to say anything in public for fear of even germinating the idea. But their rhetoric has only grown more heated, and they’ve got men with backpacks jumping on stage at events with frontier lab CEOs. I hope local, state and federal law enforcement are aware of groups like this. And I hope you do not associate yourselves with this dark and deep madness. These are dangerous people, and their ideas lead nowhere good.

Stop AI🛑@StopAI_Info

Our public defender successfully subpoenaed Sam Altman to appear at our trial where we will be tried for non-violently blocking the front door of OpenAI on multiple occasions and blocking the road in front of their office. All of our non-violent actions against OpenAI were an attempt to slow OpenAI down in their attempted murder of everyone and every living thing on earth. This trial will be the first time in human history where a jury of normal people are asked about the extiction threat that AI poses to humanity. sfgate.com/tech/article/o…

@gyc yeah and in NYC it was bill de blasio not so long ago. it’s hard to square that with the fact that NYC had double the trump vote share of SF in 2024

SF is a much smaller town than NYC so comparison are always messy, but it is interesting that the NYC Mayor’s race only had one viable “moderate” (who ran on protecting rent seekers and the status quo, not actual centrist reforms) while SF’s recent Mayor’s race was a Mod Jamboree

Mamdani’s mask slips the second the confetti hits the floor—no surprise. The “smiley act” was always a front for the same old DSA playbook: gut public safety, freeze rents into a housing collapse, and hand city services to unaccountable activist councils. His victory speech? A masterclass in delusion. Quoting Nehru while pushing policies that’d make Caracas blush. Free buses with no funding plan, $9B in new taxes to bankroll ideological pet projects, and a “flat tax” that’ll drive out the job creators he claims to protect. Mamdani’s not a reformer—he’s a radical with a TikTok filter, and New York’s about to pay the price.
