The real answer is oversaturation and streaming, imo. Same with Marvel. Once we made Star Wars into a TV show, it was no longer an Event. There is a new SW thing every six months now, and this movie is just an extension of TV. Scarcity matters.
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

Ten years ago, it would have been inconceivable to me for the release of a new Star Wars feature film to be this little of a big deal. The Last Jedi / Rise of Skywalker fiasco destroyed a staggering amount of cultural and economic value.

@DarrenWStaley @adamcarolla Everyone that needed to do things, should do them. They should take precautions. Everyone else should do what they needed and wanted to do. Seems very straight forward to me. No need to fill in skate parks with sand, close parks, or even restaurants for those that wanted to.

@Someoneguy19 @adamcarolla But the nurse has a family at home. Somebody has to bring in food. Should the person who delivers food to the retirement comminty isolate? They didn't, because they couldn't. So they wore masks and sanitized their hands and distanced. And were mocked for it.

@DarrenWStaley @adamcarolla You are missing the point. The nurse who wo s at a retirement community should isolate too. Those who need to isolate, should. The. Point.

@Someoneguy19 @adamcarolla Well first I dispute that the entire world isolated. But you are missing the whole point which is about spread. I go to the supermarket and while I am there I bump into a nurse who works at a retirement community. The old/high risk ppl need assistance.

@adamcarolla I don't know why you continue to relitigate this. Of course older people with comorbidities were more likely to die, or be hospitalized. The young, healthy people could still spread it though. And also, are you saying, well old sick people should just be left to die?

God you're an idiot lol. Every single fucking person that goes to trial gets arrested, charged, due to evidence and probable cause. Which goes BACK to my point that the level of evidence is not even close to guilt. It's merely an accusation that the court allows to proceed. It's a very low bar, like your IQ Man up coming from either a child who has an excuse to be ignorant, or truly a low IQ moron.

You're doing the same thing, champ. I'm pointing out the fact that David has clearly picked a side, and all of you should look real hard at the fact they were arrested, charged and brought to trial without issue due to evidence, probable cause, etc. I know exactly how hard it is to prove guilt in this scenario, that's why the Howden stuff was extraordinarily critical to doing exactly that. Unfortunately, he is on record talking out of both sides of his mouth and I don't have to pick a side here at all to know what's going on. I'd tone down the dramatics and man up a bit here, big boy.

@fetts81 @dstaples They had a good time. The next day when the guilt set in with her boyfriend and she had a moment of clarity it was time to come up with a game plan. I believe they are still together too. I’d convince myself the same thing that she tried if I was her too. Just didn’t work ha

I'll repeat this again because the misinformation about Carter Hart around this trial is both appalling and slanderous. Lots to hate about the Vegas franchise. But giving a second chance to Carter Hart isn't one of them. The judge in the case didn't just find no guilt, she exonerated the accused, finding as a matter of fact there was no sexual assault, that the sex was consensual. If you're curious to know the facts of the Hart and his Hockey Canada teammates case, here is summary of the 11 key findings of fact in judge Maria Carroccia's ruling: 1. That Carroccia found the complainant, E.M., to be both unreliable and not credible in her testimony about the events of the night in question, June. 18, 2018 in London, Ontario. More than that, Carroccia found that E.M. had given her consent to the sex acts with the men that night. The Hockey Canada Five were always presumed innocent until found guilty under our system, but Carroccia’s finding does more than find them not guilty. It essentially exonerates them, though we will all likely agree that they acted in poor and immature fashion that night and needed to do more to treat E.M. with care. 2. The judge also found that the notion “believe all women” is a political slogan, but goes against fundamental Canadian values that work to ensure that no innocent person is found guilty without a fair trial. 3. That key video evidence from Jack’s Bar where E.M. met Michael McLeod and other Hockey Canada players that night forcefully and completely contradicts what E.M. said about the players initiating overt sexual contact on the dance flooor, and that E.M., in fact, put her hand on McLeod’s crotch area on the dance floor. 4. That key video evidence from the bar that night forcefully and completely contradicts what E.M. claimed about getting plied with drinks from the players. In fact, E.M. bought almost all of her own drinks. 5. That key video evidence contradicts what E.M. claimed about the players trying to separate her from her friends. 6. That key video evidence and E.M’s own testimony contradicts her claim that she was completely out of it that night due to alcohol consumption. 7. That E.M. had reasons to fabricate a false narrative based on numerous factors, including making things right with her own boyfriend. 8. There was repeated and consistent testimony, including from Crown witnesses Tyler Steenbergen and Brett Howden, that E.M. pushed for the players to engage with sex acts with her, and in the end Carroccia accepted this evidence as fact. 9. That there was numerous evidence of E.M.’s testimony been unreliable. 10. That E.M. had several opportunities to get dressed and to leave if she was fearful, but she left the bathroom where her clothes were and walked naked into the room full of players to continue on with their evening. This dynamic started after she had admittedly had consensual sex with McLeod. 11. That the players group chat the following day was not an effort to fabricate a story, but a group decision to simply tell the truth about what had happened with E.M

What's annoying about that is anytime I've switched Parks shortly after entering, it gets flagged and I have to wait for a supervisor to come out. Apparently it was their way of making sure we didn't show our annual pass. Maybe that's all said and done now but they have facial recognition

Bruce Cassidy helped Vegas win a Stanley Cup. Then Vegas fired him. Now they are going to block him from choosing his next job? Who would want to work for an organization defined by malice and ingratitude? And what kind of team owner or manager would want to invite that kind of wretched karma on themselves? If Vegas carries through on this threat and blocks Cassidy, good luck to them with the curse it will put on their franchise.

@clgmatt @mayorNHL That's why I don't think it's actually a non-compete clause. It's that he's still employed, he's just not the coach. I would assume he could cancel his contract with them, and may be willing to do it. But he's likely not willing to take that risk

And non-compete clauses in the real world are on shaky ground to begin with and are routinely breached. Judges only rule in favor of employer when propriety information is stolen or significant financial harm is incurred. This is the opposite, Vegas would be saving money if he signs with Edmonton.

"Vegas is not inclined to give permission to Edmonton or LA." Key point to understand here is Cassidy is still under contract to VGK. When you're paying somebody $4.5 million for the next year, you're in control. Similar to a non-compete clause in the real world.
Elliotte Friedman@FriedgeHNIC

As for Bruce Cassidy, sources indicate that was not part of the conversation and his status is unchanged as of this morning Vegas is not inclined to give permission to Edmonton or LA. We will see about Toronto
