Hemkund Sahib, just like Manikaran Sahib is built illegally, encroaching an ancient puranic temple site. It was 'identified' as a place of reverence by the sikhs in 1934 and constructed from 1960-80s. Lokpal Kund or Hemkund is a divine Kṣetra mentioned in both Rāmāyaṇa & Mahābhārata and hosts an ancient Lakṣmaṇa Temple.

Gurudwara Sri Hemkunt Sahib – The Sacred Himalayan Pilgrimage Gurudwara Sri Hemkunt Sahib, located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand at an altitude of around 4,329 meters, is one of the highest Sikh pilgrimage sites in the world. Dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the sacred shrine remains open only during the summer months, with the 2026 yatra scheduled to begin on May 23. The pilgrimage involves a challenging Himalayan journey beginning from Govindghat, followed by a 13 km trek to Ghangaria, the base camp near the Valley of Flowers. From there, pilgrims undertake a steep 6 km climb to reach the sacred glacial lake and gurudwara surrounded by snow-covered peaks. #Uttarakhand #HemkuntSahib
