Just had a quick look at Melbourne’s new Town Hall station. Yikes. Who ever did the design work on that needs to never work on infrastructure in Australia again. Bleak, austere, grim. So much grey with some TAFE like splashes of orange and yellow. Hopefully it functions well 😕

The big unknown is the frequency of connecting services which will likely still need a timetable. Eg so far there has been no assurance that Belgrave or Lilydale will have trains better than their current 30 minute midday gaps when SRL opens. #springst

Train station car parks like this are nothing short of urban vandalism.
They barely boost train patronage, because even 630 car parks only fills a fraction of a train, at a vast cost per car park.
But they get built anyway because car brain overrides basic arithmetic

@MTandora @aussiewongm @okreroy i'd like to be proven wrong but i dont think gov departments generally hire the brightest people + (this is a guess) i suspect there's an entrenched systemic lack of focus on the "passenger experience" that has improved a little recently but has been an issue for a long time

Now with #melbourne #metrotunnel and #skyrail its certainly viable to run midday frequencys at better than 10 minutes it’s actually not expensive to do for the reasons in this blog
