@alphafox I hate that happened to you. More than likely you were the highest paid so are the first to be cut to save. Had that happen to me twice.

Today I was laid off from the IT field after 30 years at the same job. I started part time in 96' when I was a junior in high school, just doing basic troubleshooting and fixing computers. I worked through college and then full time after. What did I get for my 30 years of service? Almost nothing. I got 3 weeks vacation, which was supposed to be accrued only (which would have been 1.5 weeks) but after I complained it was changed to the full 3 weeks and paid medical for a few months. No severance. No cushion. Nothing. 😒 Why was I laid off? - Dwindling client base - The number was cut in half in recent years; several closed and some found other IT vendors. Splitting time between a smaller number of clients obviously is not sustainable. - AI automation - gone are the days of needing to run around to every computer to apply updates, basic things can be fixed remotely, and AI makes reporting that took days take hours. Instead of asking IT for help, clients just ask AI which walks them through fixing many things - Instead of needing an expert, AI can do it all for you. - Less need for IT support - back in the day, late 90's - 2010's, people had no idea how to do basic computing, hooking up computer, printers, ect. The modern workforce is able to do most of this stuff themselves and are much more computer savvy. What will I do now? Not sure. Since I have done this for 30 years, I'm unsure of the direction I want to go. I could get into another IT job probably, but we will see where the wind takes me. Without X, I would be sunk - the cost of living is so high in MA, all of my regular income went to cover the essentials. Most of the money that I have earned on X has been saved so I have that to fall back on but I never intended for it to be my full time thing. The direction X is going I sadly dont know if its viable to do full time and that's pretty sad for an account this size. At one point it seemed like a possibility, but the way things are looking now, it seems like they dont want to pay anyone for anything any more. In the meantime, I will be trying to improve my X game and possibly doing more spaces, articles, research, ect - but at the end of the day, even if I do those things, I have no idea if it will be worth it or viable the way things are looking. 'Make your living on X' Elon once said - it seems like a pipe dream at this point but here's to hoping for the future. 🥂

@akafaceUS My best was 96 hours. Back to back 8 hours shifts for 6 days. Did that for a few weeks as they were desperately short of people. Got double time for everything over 40. Of course that was in my 20’s.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever worked more than 60 hours in a week?

Humanoid skills are about to make Claude Skills look like a joke Unitree just launched UNISTORE, an app store for humanoid robots. You can create, publish, buy, and deploy robot skills with one click across all their models. Just the motion library is live right now: basic moves, dances, martial arts, all available as free downloads. It's only out in China now (international coming soon). But the platform move is obvious: Unitree is building the iOS of physical robots. Now imagine what this looks like once it matures: Right now when you download a skill for Claude or Codex, it changes how your AI writes and works inside your computer. It's all just digital output, stuff that happens on a screen. But when you download a skill for a robot, it changes what a physical machine can do in your house, your warehouse, your office. One click and suddenly your robot knows how to make coffee. Another and it's running nightly inventory in a warehouse, sorting and logging without supervision. Another and it's harvesting ripe produce row by row from your garden, adjusting grip pressure for each fruit so nothing gets bruised. We're going from downloading apps for phones to downloading skills for AI to downloading physical capabilities for robots that operate in the real world. Very cool to think about. I made a visual of what this might look like in the future:

A single AI data center uses as much electricity as 100,000 households—and utility companies are passing the upgrade costs to you, not to the trillion-dollar tech giants. I've opened an investigation. These companies need to pay their costs.

I enjoy using a local only AI on my Mac Mini but bought my mini 9-10 months ago. Long before the frenzy. It's great if you don't need speed to experiment and not have to worry about paying API call. Production? Nah. What does the output like with these weights, etc... where I can wait for the info, yep good.

The “buy a Mac mini or you’ll never make it” crew moved on already. The whole “I’m making $10,000/mo with OpenClaw in a Mac Mini” was a grift, and it’s now dead. What’s the latest now? DGX Spark?

@garrytan Only idiots think we should pause having AI based in the US. Other countries will do whatever with our care to have control. *China. AOC and Sanders are not smart people.

Sanders and AOC introduced a bill to pause ALL AI data center construction. 300+ local bills filed. Half of planned 2026 data centers facing delays or cancellation. Each one brings billions to local economies. The people who say they want American jobs are trying to block the biggest job creation engine since the interstate highway system.

@BasedMikeLee Why do you want to give them ideas? They have zero original thoughts. They simply look to what Reps are being successful at and seek to destroy it.

@Cernovich Obviously you have to vet. And monitor and do it at your house with kids you are ok with for you kid. Or if you trust another parent then ok with their house with a list of who is attending. Gen X my parents never checked anything.

Sleepovers put a child child into the lowest common denominator environment. Bunch of kids over. Only takes one lowlife with shitty parents and then kids are watching porn on an iPhone. Or worse. No sleepovers.
