The Offkai Fansly sponsorship situation has cast a spotlight certain elements of Western VTuber culture that its proponents are incapable of being honest about. I will now elaborate on this hypocrisy and highlight certain facts they would rather you not know about. First of all, there has been a concerted effort by various digital prostitutes and the dopamine-addled cattle that salivate over them to downplay and dismiss all of the rational concerns raised by more normal people. The main thrusts (haha thrusts...) of the counter-argument has been that: (A) Offkai has always had lewd content, this is a good thing and minors are never actually exposed to it. (B) This isn't a bad thing, you just hate prostitution. (C) You must be a gooner anyway, why do you care? I will dismantle these points at a later point in this post, but first I'd like to cover the main defenders of this fiasco and highlight their hypocrisy. Most notably, notorious drama-addict and vagueposting champion Evanit0 attempted to claim that all such concerns were irrelevant purely because he saw 'maybe 10 kids' at Offkai. When questioned whether or not this meant he found concerns about minors being exposed to pornography a matter of the numbers of minors involved, he refused to elaborate further. Next up was fansly creator Suto/Sutosain, who initially claimed that 'Anything genuinely explicit must legally be restricted, covered, and kept within designated 18+ areas.' However, she then immediately contradicted this statement by admitting in a reply that 'Bad dragon sells massive dragon dildos on the main con floor at all major cons.' Another defensive shot was fired by lewdtuber Podgekin, who previously attacked Zentreya for daring to have a military-themed outfit that she claimed somehow referenced fascist ideologies. Given her apparent commitment to the idea that even passive exposure to negative imagery can have a devastating effect on the human psyche, one would imagine she would be at the forefront of any movement dedicated to protecting innocent young minds from explicit content far worse than anything she once crusaded against. Except of course not. Instead, her comment on the situation was 'If you're mad about this, stay mad lmao. Love Offkai AND fansly for this!', before repeating the claim that 'they're not having any of this out in areas where minors can interact with it.' When confronted with the screenshot from Offkai's own twitter (which she also quote-tweeted) that the booth would be in the main minor-accessible Exhibition Hall, Podgekin mysteriously went silent. But while she attempted to hide her support behind an alt-account with much lower engagement and visibility than her main, Podgekin at least dared address the situation directly. Lewdtuber Lucia Crabs was unwilling to go even this far. In her May 17th post made immediately after the backlash against Offkai began, Lucia tweeted 'why do people demonize sex so much LOL like… majority of people have sexual feelings. i bet 90% of the people hating on lewdtubers / fansly sponsorships engage in some level of sexual behavior. probably mostly solo sexual behavior.' Once again, Lucia dodged all questions about the situation directly and doubled down on her 'arachnophobic huh? You must secretly want to have sex with spiders' line of reasoning. These feeble, subversive and self-defeating arguments in favour of Offkai allowing pornography in areas accessible to minors are contrasted sharply by the many far more compelling and reasonable statements made by the opposition. My personal favourite so far was from VTuber Pixel Plus, who made a long and detailed post refuting each of Sutosain's points, a link to which I will include in a reply. So far we have seen that Lewdtubers have either completely refused to acknowledge or deliberately downplayed the risks to minors presented by explicit content at conventions. They act as if exploitation of minors at these events simply never happens, or place absolute faith in the organisers' ability to place barriers between minors and pornography, despite often contradicting their own statements on the topic. I will now present a warning example that refutes this. On May 17th, a Korean account named kanachanxz posted about an incident where a 14 year old cosplayer was victimized by photographer amu_702, and provided extensive evidence of this incident. The link to this incident will also be provided in a reply. In addition, there is a long history of Offkai playing host to various degenerate sexual activities such as orgies organized by the various Lewdtubers and erotic cosplayers in attendance there. One needs only conduct a cursory search of X to find examples of con-goers accidentally walking in on these events or being exposed to them at hotels. It has also been confirmed to me in private that Offkai convention staff are active participants in these sordid affairs, both setting them up and vetting those in attendance. Ask yourself; if you were a parent, would you trust your children around staff you were fully aware could be nipping off in the middle of the convention to rub one out in a backroom with their favourite lewd cosplayer? To be clear, I am not a fan of pornography. I view digital prostitution as a contemptible and degrading activity. However, I'm aware that there is a large consumer base for such content and that it represents a substantial fraction of any convention's revenue stream. I have walked around the R18 areas at conventions like Dokomi and Vexpo and had dealings with the businesses that support and facilitate such activities. I dislike this aspect of content creation, but I will not pretend I am some kind of puritan. However, I am of the firm opinion that these things should be kept out of the mainstream. We should not be normalising lewd content anywhere minors could be exposed to it. Offkai should either brand itself an adults-only space or it should not allow lewd content, period. The hypocrisy of this convention is well-documented at this point, from the way they handle blacklists to the overt favouritism they display towards creators from certain political backgrounds. By doing these things, Offkai has contributed to a culture of fear and repression among VTubers, artists and community members who believe there should be hard boundaries and codes of conduct surrounding anything to do with minor-endangering content. I have had numerous people tell me that they want to speak out against this kind of thing, but cannot do so for fear of blacklisting both from Offkai and the various circles that support its licentious attitudes towards content creation. Thanks to this, we are at the point where we are being told to not believe our lying eyes. Offkai has stated clearly and unambiguously that explicit content will be available in spaces occupied by minors, but pointing this out is treated as somehow wrong and unserious. Their supporters will not even acknowledge these facts even when clearly presented with them, so confident are they that there is no threat to them and their grip on power in this industry is absolute. Well, I won't stand for it. I will stand up for dignity, respect and the absolute exclusion of lewd content from minor-accessible spaces. There will be no compromise on this stance, and I encourage others to stand firm in their own beliefs. Document everything, record everything, share and spread all evidence of Offkai's hypocrisy and lapses in professionalism. Do not allow this kind of thing to become anymore normalised than it already has been. Thank you for reading.
