“These plaques represent the human remains of soldiers who died for our freedom.” Edmonton police need your help locating World War One memorial plaques stolen from Edmonton Cemetery. Known to collectors as death pennies or dead man pennies, the plaques have little monetary value but are of great historical significance. The plaques were given to the families of soldiers whose bodies could not be returned to Canada after the war. Police believe collectors may have purchased the plaques online, not knowing they were stolen. Police want to return the plaques to the soldiers’ families. Last night, we hosted our annual candlelight memorial. A well received service with the message that it’s ok to still be sad and to grieve during this time of year. Provided those in attendance with a lantern ornament with the words: “Your light will always shine in our hearts.”
