@Sowlsy @joeladejola Well, if you say he has, I'd agree, I haven't seen him do that considerable but then, I'm sure he can be more composed than Eriksen. I believe he can turn out really really good but it'd take a massive shift not just tactical or technical but majorly mental for that to happen.

We often discuss & analyze midfield partnerships (trios/duos) in isolation, but are they the most important synergies that form on the pitch? I find it more useful scoping such relationships by zones & across different game phases. Here’s an example of how that might work:

@BelovethJohn @joeladejola Again he has done it at times for Chelsea + England and looked calm and composed every time he's done so He receive the ball on the half turn well to break pressure, his progressive passing game is very good and his retention in his own half is considerably better than Eriskens

@Sowlsy @joeladejola He definitely has to improve in many things if he joins us but playing that deep is something he's done very rarely in his career. And I'm talking about deep to the point of aiding build up in the first phase.

@BelovethJohn @joeladejola That's exactly the system Ten hag is implementing at United as he did at Ajax. Blind and Mazouri were both equally adept at either dropping into the 3 or inverting to make a midfield two It's something we've seen united do more and more as the season has progressed

@Sowlsy @joeladejola Agreed. This would mean, one of Shaw or Dalot/AWB would be part of that 3 and Casemiro would be along if it's a 1 or the other FB would invert, leaving the #8s and wingers higher up and providing overlaps and underlaps for the wingers. Let's see how it goes.

@BelovethJohn @joeladejola With two technically brilliant progression minded CBs the need for eriksen to drop deep would become much, much less. And there's also the car of Bruno also being able to efficiently drop deep arguably to a higher level than eriksen

@BelovethJohn @joeladejola Ten hag is very well known to implement 3-2 / 3-1 in build up as he almost exclusively did at Ajax. We've rarely seen a 2-3/2-4 particularly after the World Cup and when we have it's been whilst players are recycling possesion and transitioning back into a 3-1 /3-2

@Sowlsy @joeladejola And also, I think we've our build up this szn has varied in different matches like this you showed is just one match. But then it's clear, we'd have a more structure moving forward. Might be 3-2/3-1 or a 2-3/2-4. I guess we'd see both a 3-1 & 2-3 more often next szn tho.
