Todays mechanic tip: Please do not make a habit of waiting until your vehicles fuel level is so low that the low fuel warning light is on. Here is why you should add fuel when it gets no lower than the the 1/4 mark on the fuel gauge. On most cars today the fuel pump is in the fuel tank and submerged in gasoline, which acts as a coolant and lubricant. When the fuel drops below a quarter tank, the pump is exposed and can easily overheat causing it to wear out quicker. Also, low fuel level can cause the pump to pull possible sediment from the bottom of the tank. This can quickly clog your fuel filter and damage the pump's motor. Fuel pump replacement can be very costly depending and make and model of car. And this mechanic has never enjoyed replacing them.

I am mainly in my office, but I like to get my hands dirty on the boats once in a while, but definitely not this time of the year. Our CNC machines, which I also run, are in our air-controlled shop, so it is very, very nice!!! I have gotten really good at managing my projects without having to see them in person; a few cases of beer or tequila go a long way in making life easier.
