In keeping with baseball spring training, Team Earth appealed to umpire Webb. Astronomers looked at new observations of asteroid 2024 YR4, calculated a new orbit, and declared the Moon safe. It's a very close call: YR4 will miss the Moon by only 20,000 km. theguardian.com/science/2026/m…

The night sky is greatly damaged by thousands of new satellites. Launching a million more, is the best way to deal with this?! Pollution from rockets and reentering satellites could be problematic for our atmosphere too. Launch first, ask questions later? cbc.ca/news/science/s…

Twinkle, twinkle little Moon? Did you see the lunar eclipse early Tuesday morning? Probably didn't twinkle, unless you viewed it using a thermal camera. What a stunning image! Also check out "more images from Wah: #1, #2, #3, #4" further down the page. spaceweather.com/archive.php?vi…

What does the future of astronomy and your access to the night sky look like? Some say doing astronomy should be moved off the Earth. Blinkered thinking got us into this mess, more blinkered thinking won't get us out of it. Clear thinking to be read here. spacenews.com/the-future-of-…

GLE05, now there's a catchy name, is having its 70th anniversary today. What? It was a huge solar event in 1956 which, if it happened today, would cause big time trouble for our modern tech. It came from an *enormous* solar active region blotching the Sun. spaceweather.com/archive.php?vi…

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen will soon be headed to the Moon on Artemis II. He'll receive an extra boost from a new song by Emm Gryner called "Touch the Sky," which cheers him on. Gryner has previously also worked with Canadian astronaut Cmdr Hadfield. youtube.com/watch?v=agneZn…

The astronomical spectacle of the year may occur the first week of April. Or not. Keep an eye on how Comet MAPS behaves as it travels towards the Sun. It may even become visible in daylight. Or, it might break up and fizzle out. It's a one-time lottery.spaceweather.com/archive.php?vi…

Canada is getting ready to put a new kind of satellite in orbit. NordSpace’s Terra Nova demo mission will test on‑orbit AI, wildfire monitoring and space domain awareness on a SpaceX rideshare in 2026 – a big step for sovereign Canadian space capability: spaceq.ca/nordspace-anno…

After you wake up tomorrow you're gonna be going a lot further than 500 miles or even 500 more. In fact, it'll only take you about 2 seconds, walking or not. How far have you gone today or since you were born? You can proclaim it after finding out here. cosmic-odometer.vercel.app

There's another entrant into the race to provide Canada with sovereign launch capabilities, the Canada Rocket Company (CRC). They've had success in attracting talent and money, so it'll be interesting to follow and see what they can deliver. betakit.com/canada-rocket-…

Turbo-pump. You're unlikely to ever need one, but they're the "heart" of large rocket engines, feeding in the required large amounts of propellant and oxidizer. We'll need the skills to design and build them if we're to have a sovereign launch capability. spaceq.ca/from-competiti…

Moss in Space. Not as catchy as "Pigs in Space" nor is there a movie deal in the works. Japanese researchers directly exposed moss and moss parts to space at the International Space Station. No moss space suits or other protection. Guess what happened? cbc.ca/news/science/s…

A CRASH clock shows how long it would take before satellites start slamming into each other if we suddenly lost precise tracking—like in a big solar storm. Today, that timer isn’t very long, thanks to massive satellite “constellations.” spaceweather.com/archive.php?vi…
