In World War I, 100,000 Jews served in the Imperial German Army to defend the honor of the Fatherland and Kaiser. They fought and died alongside their non-Jewish German brethren under the same banner. As a soldier, Adolf Hitler reported to more than one Jewish commander, including Hugo Gutmann, who recommended Hitler for the Iron Cross. Despite this, many Germans subscribed to an entirely fantastical myth that "someone" had stabbed Germany in the back - that it was impossible for Germany to have lost the war on its own. Defeat on the battlefield was inconceivable to those who had mythologized an ascendant Prussia. Someone other than the army and the ruling political class had to be blamed for losing the war. Historian William Shirer addresses this directly in his book The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: "Thus emerged for Hitler, as for so many Germans, a fanatical belief in the legend of the 'stab in the back' which, more than anything else, was to undermine the Weimar Republic and pave the way for Hitler's ultimate triumph. The legend was fraudulent. General Ludendorff, the actual leader of the High Command, had insisted on September 28, 1918, on an armistice 'at once,' and his nominal superior, Field Marshal von Hindenburg, had supported him." - p. 31 Shirer continues: "Only later did Germany's great war hero subscribe to the myth. In a hearing before the Committee of Inquiry of the national assembly on November 18, 1919, a year after the war's end, Hindenburg declared: 'as an English general has very truly said, the German army was stabbed in the back.'" - p. 31 "They had to find scapegoats for the defeat and for their humiliation and misery." - p. 32 Instability on the home front - caused in part by the army's failure to achieve its objectives - created a vacuum for domestic unrest. Communists seized the opportunity, encouraging factory workers to strike and disrupt supply chains. Red-inspired naval mutinies in 1917 and 1918 added fuel to the fire, ultimately culminating in the Spartacist Uprising of 1919, when Communists attempted to seize control of Berlin after the War. Because Communism was fathered by Karl Marx, who was born Jewish (but disavowed it), and because the German Communists who launched the Spartacist Uprising were led in part by Rosa Luxemburg, also Jewish, Hitler seized on the idea that Communism was inherently Jewish - and therefore that Jews were to blame for Germany's defeat. This brings us back full circle to those 100,000 men who served in the Imperial German Army and fought and died for their country. These two worldviews cannot be reconciled: one cannot hold simultaneously that Jews fought heroically for the Fatherland and that they also betrayed it. They cannot be reconciled because the entire premise is not about truth - it's about blame. It's about treating Jews as a monolith as opposed to individual people, which is a precondition for dehumanization. It is an ego-driven exercise from start to finish. The rise of the Nazis, the Holocaust, the founding of modern Israel, the regional Middle East wars, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the war in Iran today - the chain of causation behind all of these events stems from this moment. Someone had to be blamed. Someone had to be demonized. Someone had to pay for a loss that came after so much sacrifice - so much honor, blood, and glory spent on the battlefield, seemingly for nothing. And what did Germany receive in return? The French marching into the Ruhr Valley and the humiliation that came with it that gave the Nazis the boon they needed to seize control and act on their interpretation of how the War had been lost. This ego-driven failure of accountability unlocked a chain of events that has carried us to the present day. It's built entirely on the refusal to digest difficult truths - on passing the buck rather than reckoning with consequences. It reflects a failure of introspection and an inability to grapple with the results of one's own actions. It's Newton's Third Law playing out across history.

The Holocaust never ended. The Jews just got really good at preventing Nazis from murdering us. It’s called Never Again, bitch.
