It was the most expensive animated movie Disney made at the time, took a decade to make, and flopped when it was released causing layoffs and making Walt not want to focus on feature animation anymore and move into live-action. The high cost and flop resulted the cheaper animation of the 60s and 70s, and Disney didn’t produce another “Princess” movie until 1989.
