U.S. Mission to the UN

An honor to welcome my friend @LukeJLindberg to New York. In meetings with Ambassadors to the @UN from across the globe, Luke shared his passion for the @WFP and his commitment to WFP’s mission to end global hunger. Luke is an accomplished and exceptional leader, and our team is proud to support Luke to be the next Executive Director of WFP.

We condemn the attacks by Polisario Front in Smara.   Such violence threatens regional stability and the progress made towards peace.   These actions are inconsistent with the spirit of the recent talks.   The time to end this 50-year-old dispute is now.   As affirmed in UNSCR 2797, the Moroccan Autonomy Proposal lays out the path to peace in Western Sahara.  We call on all those resisting peace to genuinely commit to a brighter future. The status quo cannot continue.

The UN is supposed to be a place to peacefully resolve global conflict. It is a real test of the UN if it cannot condemn Iran’s criminal threats to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

.@USAmbUN: “All we’re asking is for the UN to do what it did last month, when 136 nations condemned Iran for attacking civilian infrastructure… no matter how you feel about a conflict, you can’t respond by throwing sea mines into international waterways.”

The U.S. will not impose a political or ideological model on South Sudan. We only demand the basics: peace, responsible use of public revenue, and an end to the abuse of assistance meant for the South Sudanese people. They have waited long enough. (13/13)

We cut the troop ceiling by 4,500. We kept out language on gender, climate, misinformation, and disinformation. We added pointed language demanding South Sudan stop interfering with peacekeepers. And we made clear foreign taxpayers should not fund elections the transitional government won’t fund itself. (12/13)

Last week, @USAmbUN Waltz voted YES to renew UNMISS because it still has a job to do: protect civilians, support humanitarian access, and report honestly to the Security Council. But: we DID NOT support business as usual. With a 13-0-2 vote, we delivered on President Trump's vision: this mandate had to get back to basics. (1/13)

The evidence is clear: DPRK sanctions violations are ongoing and fund its unlawful nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs. The first flight from the U.S. in years landed in Venezuela yesterday as @POTUS rapidly remakes the world. "The last time I was here in Venezuela was 18 years ago and I'm very excited to go and see the family." "Taking my family back, my kids back, my grandkids... Historic."
