“Of all the Bank Holidays the Monday in August seems the most genuine. Whit Monday, like Easter Monday, moves with the compulsion of the moon. August Bank Holiday depends upon nothing but itself. It is a gift-day, out of, and generally under, the blue.” ~A.A.Milne #GiftDay
This ad by @xx_xyathletics is beautiful and powerful. It also got them b&nned from T!kTok for life. Do you think it’s offensive? I think it’s wonderful.
I’ll include a link to their store down below. 👇🏻
Today is Trooping the Colour in London. I thought you might like to see this very rare 12-second snippet of the Trooping filmed in colour 118 years ago. I've always had a fascination for early colour film, and this excerpt from 1906 has been on my hard-drive for some years. Today seems like the right day to share it!
Notice to all dealers in scrap/metal/antiques : If anyone offers you this beauty, it's been stolen from St Augustine's church, Edgbaston and they would very much like it back...
🗣️ “This is not ancient history. This took place in living memory.”
The head of the British Army, General Sir Patrick Sanders, explains why commemorating D-Day is so important
#DDay80
Every #DDay I come back to Harry Billinge ❤️
If you’re tempted to moan about something meaningless or complain today… watch Harry and think about what he, and many others, went through for the freedoms we all too often take for granted.
There aren’t many of those heroes left but they have so much to teach us.
We’ll be playing music to commemorate the anniversary throughout the day on @ClassicFM#DDay80#LestWeForget
Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: "It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones.
There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion. If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That's why you should always have a nutrition choice!
Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity."

In the past month, #HeroRAT Ronin found 2 #landmines & 1 unexploded bomb, clearing 6,505 m² for #APOPO. His work enables safe land use. Ronin works 30 mins in the morning, and rests/plays well afterward. This balance maintains his effectiveness. #cambodia#savinglives#herorats
Welcome to my green clinic ☺️
Few hours in the greenhouse and I feel like I've been to the spa, therapy session and a chiropractor 😂
Potted on my brassicas, tomatoes and sowed more basil, more dill, more flowers like cosmos, scabiosa and I'm trying again with the celery 🤞🤞🤞
