@JohnCleese Is this a parody account, or the real John Cleese is failing to see shortcomings in British "democracy"?

Never forget that what really frightens him is democracy Because all the NATO countries are democracies Except for the United States of America, of course Which is Russia's ally...

Increasingly frantic statements from the Russian dictator following the humiliating parade experience – now admitting that he started the war in Ukraine to punish them for their desire to join the EU and that he intends to do the same to Armenia.

@McFaul It's mind-boggling to think that you were responsible for resetting relations with Russia. What precisely were you doing in Moscow?

Ukrainian warriors have stopped the invading Russian hordes. Putin is losing his war in Ukraine. Gerasimov is a complete failure, and will go down in history as one of Moscows worst generals. Putin would be wise to cut his losses.

Trump claims to like strong leaders and winners. If so, then Zelenskyy is his man. Putin these days looks weak. His army in Ukraine is losing. His economy is stagnating. He looks tired.

BREAKING: Islamic Terrorist Regime IS DUMPING OIL INTO THE SEA! 🚨 As we warned: the regime has run out of storage capacity. For days now, they’ve been faking tanker transfers while pouring massive amounts of extracted oil straight into the ocean. Deliberate. Criminal. Environmental catastrophe. They are literally poisoning the sea. This is ecocide in real time. #KingRezaPahlavi‌ForIran

@joni_askola You have it backwards. It is immigration that pushes native birthrates down.

It’s time for Europe to get honest about demographics. Wishing for higher birth rates is not a strategy. No one has successfully reversed the decline, and we cannot count on being the exception. We need practical solutions to survive, and that includes immigration

Europe’s biggest strategic mistake after the Cold War was building massive dependence on Russian energy without integrating Russia into a stable European security architecture. Before 2022: → Russia supplied ~40–45% of EU gas imports → Germany depended on Russia for ~55% of its gas imports → Much of Europe’s industrial competitiveness relied on cheap Russian energy Europe assumed economic interdependence would guarantee stability. So Europe created a huge vulnerability: → Europe became dependent on Russian energy → Russia remained strategically outside the European system When the conflict came, the consequences were massive: → German electricity prices surged from ~€40/MWh to peaks above €700/MWh → Europe lost industrial competitiveness → Germany entered near-economic stagnation Either Russia should have been progressively integrated into European institutions under binding treaties, economic agreements and legal guarantees or Europe should have built far greater strategic independence from Russian energy much earlier.

Communist China’s flagrant disregard of American sanctions against Iran’s oil and gas products needs to be challenged. China is the largest purchaser of Russia’s oil and gas. China also openly flouts sanctions by buying Iranian oil, propping up the terrorist regime. While we all hope for a better relationship with China, this abuse by China needs to be addressed. I would urge @POTUS and his team to put China on notice that their behavior regarding Russia and Iran is unacceptable.

@EmmanuelMacron You recognise that the blockade was put in place after the onset of hostilities, and yet you fail to condemn the hostilities. Iran would be well advised against your intervention. No good comes out of Anglo-French collaborations.

@SparxUmlilo @joni_askola Ok, here comes the hairsplitting. Yes, I agree the EU is not perfect. Nothing is. But it's way better than the USSR. I had a similar discussion with a neighbour about the Gaza genocide. She brought up a couple of criminal Muslims. As if that justifies what's going on there.

Mourning the USSR makes zero sense. Every single state that achieved independence and aligned with Europe is vastly better off today than they ever could have been. If you are sad about the collapse of that failed empire, you are definitely not an anti-imperialist

France’s Macron says it is time for Europe to become a geopolitical power. “This must be the moment of awakening. It is time for Europe to wake up … If we do not decide for ourselves, we will be swept away.” Europe needs more unity—and fast.

@Bud50667647 @joni_askola People have been sanctioned for their views in the EU. Yes, EU is nominally capitalist, but EU (state) control is on the ascendancy. The Executive boasts of having "tools" to force countries to toe the line. How about deleted emails to hide corrupt deals? EU is capitalist USSR!

@SparxUmlilo @joni_askola Freedom of choice, expression and belief for starters. Then we have civil, political and individual rights. (Albeit not perfect in EU, far better than in the USSR). The same goes for corruption. And then we have the living standards, which were abysmal outside the big cities.
