Marathon is unironically the best extraction shooter in the market. If what you're looking for is the extraction shooter experience. If you want fun stories with strangers then yes, ARC Raiders takes it. Otherwise Marathon does everything better than EVERYTHING else.

If not, it’s fear and desperation and I wouldn’t bet against dev layoffs well before the end of the quarter.

@SpawnofTodd @ModernWarzone I don't think this is relevant at all. they've done this exact thing with Destiny expansions where the raid content drops later. they probably expected a larger launch number but calling the game a failure is extremely premature.

@tjk_9000 @ModernWarzone I think there’s next to zero chance marathon is doing anything but underperforming at this moment to their standards/projections lol. Maybe they’ve always genuinely believed this endgame content was gunna be the hook into people, or maybe it’s their last ditch effort.

But a game that was in development for over 5 years by a AAA gaming studio is pretty blatantly going to have to perform better than this in order to profit & I have a hard time believing anyone would disagree with that from a financial perspective?

@SpawnofTodd @ModernWarzone you know what sony/bungie expectations were? what defines failure when making a competitive game? the budget, success metrics and reasons for layoffs are undisclosed. people think sony's acquisition cost 3.6B cash. that's not how it works. they don't need to make it back

@tjk_9000 @ModernWarzone I agree with that. But so far the reason for failure is casuals & hate train. discord I’m in is relatively small, 50ish people. But most are experienced PC gamers that give no fucks about arc/casual’s opinion. I think there’s 2 people that made it more than 30 hours into marathon

@tjk_9000 @ModernWarzone I don’t mind a hopeful sentiment. I also think it’s lazy to say the only reason the game is off to a sluggish start is cuz of a hate campaign. Theres some lame AR fans that would hate it no matter what, but theres tons of people who went in wanting to like it & just simply didn’t

@SpawnofTodd @ModernWarzone I think the sentiment is that, if the game survives the ridiculous cancel-campaign, it could pull a RB6 siege and grow over time. bungie needs to stay the course and sony needs to support them. it has more staying power than a helldivers type game

@SpawnofTodd @ModernWarzone It is only going to go lower as good bunch of Destiny 2 players will return to their beloved MMO sooner rather than later. Unless Sony discontinues the D2 servers of course. Extraction has always been niche, AR is an exception. Bungie should have just made a PvE game.

Not saying the jury is completely out but as of right now we’re defs the minority lol. Which is fine for us, for Bungie? Who knows

@ModernWarzone @SpawnofTodd Game is fucking amazing. I play it off stream cause people constantly complain about it when I’m streaming it but once you understand the UI and how everything works it got infinitely better. Legit end stream and immediately play with the boys 🤣😭

Basing it off of the people I see playing it and the vibes they have on stream, as well as others I know like @Repullze who have openly said they play it every night off stream and are addicted af and he's basically brand new to extraction games. Everyone I know who has played it for more than an hour or two basically plays it every day for long sessions now.
