@atrupar Why, capitalist greed. Multinational companies manufacturing where their is cheap labour (maybe exploitive, child, indentured), less environmental controls, no recourse if workers are injured, etc.

Policy proposal for school boards and superintendents: Cut education administrative staff in half and cancel needless software contracts. Use those savings to implement a pay-for-performance salary scale so that the best teachers in your district can make $120,000+

@JamesAFurey Not in Ontario. The govt would rather teachers buy their own resources and they don’t supply anything anymore.

I know it’s generally accepted by many that schools are underfunded, but I also know that nearly every school I’ve worked at has had brand new textbook sets just sitting in a cupboard somewhere barely ever used. Maybe a mismanagement of funds more than a lack of funds? Just a theory.

Last week these eggs cost $8.49, they are now $9.99!! Why? What’s the reason? They’re Canadian eggs, they do NOT come from the US, there are NO tariffs on them. Can someone please explain this to me?

Whoa, Poilievre's announcement today: He would invoke the notwithstanding clause to overturn a Supreme Court ruling and make sure multiple murderers die in prison. This would make him the first prime minister to override the Charter using the notwithstanding clause. Aiieee

@FixingEducation It’s parents! They need to teach resilience. Parents use phones and video games to quiet children and have time to themselves, etc. parents need to teach them what to do when they are bored, and how to entertain themselves without electronics

@sage_stage I think it depends on the percentage of each. But it takes far fewer unmotivated to affect the class than motivated

Everything I've learned about education in the last 40 years summarized in one post. If you expose unmotivated students to motivated students, the better students will get pulled down more than the less motivated students will be pulled up

It's Autism Awareness Month, so let's bust a pretty common myth about autism. "Everyone's a little autistic." No hate if you've ever said this. But if you have, I hope you'll stick around for this. 🙂

@BenisonMrs I get it, it sounds really bad-needs rewording‘Nonsense words’ are used to identify letter-sound correctness as opposed to sight word memorization. This can be used to identify which letters or combinations a student is having trouble with and help them learn to sound out words.

@Teachers__Unite For many schools, one extra teacher could make straight grades instead of splits. To save money they cut that teachers. We need more research showing the negative impact on split grades on education outcomes and teacher retention.

@eduleadership @educatingsped Agreed, as long as it is done with compassion. If a student is belittled or other students tease them for a wrong answer and the teacher doesn’t step in, then a problem is created.

Yep, this is what the science says. Give kids experiences that make them stronger. Challenge them. Cold-call them. Make them do things hard enough they can't succeed without real effort. Being anxious about student anxiety only makes it worse.
Mrs.Thomas@ThomasFortO

@eduleadership I also still "cold call" on students to answer questions. The best way to learn to handle anxiety is exposure and practice.

Another day, another anti-Trump rant from a coworker on Facebook. Want to know how many times I’ve seen this sort of thing from a conservative teacher? Zero. In fact, I don’t know any conservative teachers IRL. Not because they’re not there, but because they sure aren’t being vocal about it.

Silence from Sylvia Jones, Doug Ford, Stephen Lecce, Kinga Surma, Paul Calandra and Prabmeet Sarkaria as Tina Yazdan reports that over 11,000 Ontarians died waiting for surgeries, MRIs and CT scans as Doug Ford and Sylvia Jones cutting $21B from Heathcare.
P.b.Freire@Freire1Pb

Sylvia Jones has no concern 17,000 constituents in her Dufferin-Caledon riding don't have a family doctor and not even batting an eye as more than 200 communities in Ontario don't have a family doctor or accepting new patients as Doug Ford says:

Inclusion while so well intentioned to de-stigmatize children with special needs is creating classrooms where kids are feared. Instead of embracing this philosophy, supporting these children and fostering community, govt used it to cut costs. Without support it creates division

Education attracts people who want to save the world, unfortunately. I wish it attracted more people who wanted simply to teach kids math, science, history, how to read, and other important school subjects.
