After 20 years, I still love programming in Java. With an extensive ecosystem of frameworks and libraries and a significant market share, learning Java has been one of the best career moves I've ever made.

In years to come, students in university departments around the world will be studying the propaganda embedded in this headline. As someone who regularly lectures in sociology, journalism and media studies, I could teach an entire lesson on the title alone. For example: 1. Treating the 4 Israeli soldiers as more important than the 23 Palestinian children (by leading the story with their deaths and just chucking in the others at the end) implies their lives are of higher value. 2. Infantilizing active duty soldiers as "teenagers" while not emphasizing the age of the schoolkids, despite many of them being demonstrably younger. 3. The classic use of the passive voice: Israelis are "killed" while Palestinians merely "die". 4. Putting scare quotes around "23 die" subtly undermines the credibility of that claim. Maybe no one died, and the Palestinians are just lying? 5. Using the word "attack" for Hezbollah actions, but choosing a more neutral, clinical word like "strike" for Israeli aggression. 6. Allowing Israeli sources to dictate the framing of the story ("Israel names teenage soldiers") etc. 7. Actually naming the Israeli soldiers, but not doing the same for the far greater number of Palestinians, again sends the message to the reader that Palestinian lives don't matter nearly as much, if at all. It's truly incredible how much propaganda has been packed into 16 words. We are swimming in an ocean of propaganda. That's why it is crucial to deconstruct it and critically assess everything you read, see and hear.

@DanielPriestley Yeah if the promlt 'use lots of corporate jargon' accurately replaces what the consultancy is producing then they deserve to be replaced by a low rent AI.

Yesterday I showed a guy ChatGPT. His mind was blown. He works in a senior role at a large consulting firm. The big bosses have banned them all from using it. They think they are going to develop their own internal LLM (lol). This firm gets paid £6k per person per day to advise government and other big business. I showed this guy how easy it is to replicated the work produced by the consulting firm - “act as a consultant with xxxxxx and produce a discussion document on how the UK government should transition towards renewable energy. Include a step by step roadmap. Use lots of corporate jargon to justify the high consulting fees.” He watched it bang out a response in 5 seconds flat. His eyes bulged… - “and this is available now??” - “this is free?” - “anyone can download this??” He genuinely had no idea it was possible. These big firms are sitting ducks.

@stevenpfellows @GlowieKong @martymadrid Who are these companies that don't have e-mail, zoom, Slack or Teams? They would be much more productive using tech instead of having to walk to people's desks or wait for them at the water cooler and have a face to face.

@stevenpfellows @martymadrid Everytime I see a company or a manager complaining about remote work they are just outing themselves/ company as being unable to adapt to change. Red flag for their ability to react to change in their industry they'd likely make huge losses if a disruptor moved into their market.

ObGrumpyOldMan: I am so tired of being "congratulated" by machines for trivial things like submitting a form, or being told "nice choice" for putting something in my shopping cart. (Does anyone get told "rookie move, bozo" for buying dumb stuff? I'd be less grumpy if they did.)

Must watch on House of Commons reform @EllieChowns Dr Ellie Chowns, "As a newly elected member, I'd like to offer observations on three elements on how this house operates: sitting, speaking and voting" ➡️ Sitting - Chamber is too small - In Council and in European parliament we had own seat, desk, plug in devices - Extraordinary there aren't enough seats for every MP There is a practice of Christian prayers, as a daughter of preachers I am familiar with this. But in this day and age where we are a mix of all faiths and none, it might be time to represent a range of faiths ➡️ Speaking - If we have more time limits more MPs would be incentivised to speak - Trying to get a slot, bobbing up and down, last week I did for five solid hours without getting attention of the speaker - This is not good for a democracy - Find a better way of allocating speaking time - The culture in this house is everything from excessive deference to braying, we need to clean to clean up politics, we are here to debate in as positive a spirit as possible ➡️ Voting - It's extraordinary we do not have electronic voting - While I've been here I've participated in 5 votes, that's taken 1.25 quarter - If you add up all the votes thats 1.5 months of MPs time, totally unproductive - If we got rid of the voting lobbies we could double the physical size of the chamber (everyone could then have a seat) "My final point, if we want to be a truly modern house of commons: proportional representation"

Made content about how the prev. Tory cabinet, Truss, etc. are in bed with these lunatics. Farage has already fled Clacton, a run down town he used for power, to be with Donny. They’re trying to import this. Hence culture wars, hence hate, hence division.
