I double up with my ex every couple weeks We don’t talk about it. It just happens. 2am. both online. she sent the invite, or i do. neither of us acknowledges who sent it first. We put up the soju stream, the discord call is 99% soju yapping. no "how have you been." no "seeing anyone?" just good comms “send cait” “I’m open” "I'm 9 next turn." That’s the whole conversation. here's the thing though. our synergy is still nasty. she knows when to trade me a bow before I ask for it. I know her line selection better than the last 6 duos I played with. we don't communicate because we don't need to. 400 games of muscle memory doesn't give a fuck about relationship status. we'll go +300LP together. maybe 400LP on a good night. then it's "im out” and we're offline for another 2 weeks. no follow up. no "we should do this more often." nothing. because we both know what this is. it's not friendship. it's not rekindling. it's not even nostalgia. it's that neither of us has found better synergy. and that's the uncomfortable truth about double up. you can break up with someone and still be stuck with them competitively. you can hate someone's guts and still close out the game perfectly. you can move on emotionally and still be hardstuck trying to replace what you had in game. some people have exes they still fuck. i have an ex i still double up with. honestly not sure which is worse. When my birthday comes around, I tend to reflect on how the last year has been. I'm not gonna lie, this past year has kicked my ass. I've lost many family members; I found someone who I thought was truly the one and that failed; I tried dating again and got rejected for the first time; two of my handful of IRL friends ended up moving away; online friends that I was once super close with almost feel like distant memories (though a lot of this is my own fault); I'm still a nepo-baby who feels like a failure in society's eyes. And, honestly, I feel guilty for feeling this way because I know it could be so much worse and that so much of this is my own manufactured mental bullshit. Like I'm not having my rights and existence taken away and persecuted. I'm not watching my friends and family die during a war against a fascist regime. I'm not struggling financially or wondering when my next meal is going to be. But that does not mean the pain and mental distress I've dealt with recently is not real, and this is something I'm trying to come to terms with. But yeah. If you are wondering where stream has been, I've been trying to get my head on straight before I return, but hopefully I'll be back Thursday for my birthday and doing a 28 hour charity stream. I appreciate the patience as always
