The FAI have confirmed a major overhaul of Ireland’s underage international coaching structure with a new full-time model introduced across the pathway from U15 to U19 level.
Five full-time International Lead Coaches have been appointed with Noel Hunt, Chelsea Noonan, John Cotter, Keith O’Halloran and James Scott taking up those roles, while Conor McCormack, Graham Gartland, Mark Connors and Richie Smith will work as full-time International Coaches.
The new structure moves away from the traditional single age-group setup and instead creates a connected coaching pathway across all international teams with a stronger focus on long-term player development and alignment throughout the system.

Stephen Bradley has congratulated Shamrock Rovers' Ed McGinty and Adam Brennan for earning their first 🇮🇪 senior call-ups but feels a bigger discussion needs to be had regarding LOI clubs being without key players while the season is ongoing.

Probably talking about MoM and Matt Richie. Two of our highest earners and spent hardly any time on the pitch #readingfc

Although it probably came a lot sooner than many expected, including Rory himself, it felt like the arrival of a very high potential talent. Finneran has captained Ireland throughout the age groups and has consistently been one of the standout performers every single time he has pulled on the green jersey.
A proper Rolls Royce of a midfielder. Elegant on the ball, intelligent off it and a real leader despite only being 18 years of age. He dictates play, progresses the ball forward brilliantly and reads the game at such a high level for someone so young. Ireland have badly needed a natural number six who can both break up play and control games with the ball, and Finneran has all the attributes to become that player long term.
I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again, but stylistically he really does remind me of Declan Rice (unfortunately) in the way he moves, carries the ball, breaks up play and controls midfield areas.
What was also hugely encouraging was the belief shown in him by the senior staff. To trust an 18-year-old who hasn’t yet played regular senior football shows just how highly he is rated behind the scenes, and by all accounts he really impressed throughout the camp.
Of course, the next step now is regular senior football at club level because that is what will ultimately determine how quickly he can establish himself long term in the Ireland setup. But even in his short cameo yesterday, you could see the quality immediately.
It genuinely feels like this is only the beginning for Rory Finneran and I think supporters who were there yesterday will look back in 10 or 15 years’ time and remember they witnessed the debut of a potential game changer for Irish football.
