There are real concerns about data centers. They're getting huge tax breaks in many areas. There are environmental concerns that are often not being addressed in the way they should. And there are lots of issues where the cost of electrical upgrades is being passed onto consumers, instead of the data center company.
The data center companies are almost completely silent. And their proxies are almost exclusively ignoring valid concerns, and pretending like everyone is just being a Luddite. This is making the problem much, much worse.
I estimate a significant portion of the country is going to ban these things before the companies realize they shouldn't act worse than 19th century robber barons.

Rising resistance to data centers is not just about NIMBYism, says writer and organizer Astra Taylor. It's also about asserting "democratic governance over AI" and pushing back against "Silicon Valley and its authoritarian agenda." democracynow.org/2026/5/13/astr…

Using a Chatbot can be very toxic for your mind and health but that depends on how you use it and how lonely you are.
English

@Spitfire_2600 @bresla_linda @Zarish5062 @ZainabSana2622 They use massive amounts of electricity.
For this they use mostly gas turbines.
Those are very loud and polluting.
NOX, CO1 and other byproducts of the combustion process.
English

@Zarish5062 @ZainabSana2622 It is a fact these data centers raise temperatures. They create dead zones bcuz of the light and noise pollution. They use massive amounts of water only to release toxins into its environment.

@MikeDrucker Back in my day we had to use paper. I still have the blisters. Imagine doing factorials in your head these days, what a waste of time.
