@Ravenismeee Nobody really cares, ans saying nothing and learning to cope or solve the issue is less painful than having to explain our issue to people, especially when they don't actually care that much. Why be judged for the often immutable, when you can simply coast.

@Ramez05 Isn't people's whole issue is its less a game and more like the Dino jump game if you didn't have to press anything. So basically an interactable screensaver. What I think grinds people's gears is how it got so many review sites to do basically the inverse of a review bomb.

The level of hate Mixtape is getting for it's critic reviews is pretty unprecedented for how harmless the game actually is its not actually "woke" or DEI in any way and no agendas are being pushed. just teenage and music nerd cringe for people who are nostalgic for those time. it quite literally not a game made for everyone and if you didn't connect with it that's ok! but do we really need to hear how much you dislike it whenever someone says they enjoy it? that's the real cringe tbh

@Merrydawg @NTE_GL Respectfully merry, you may be one of the larger male vtubers out there, but like... I don't really see why the company is going to be moved to action by your single endorsement. It's been shown in the data that the constant moral grandstanding leads to free ads anyway. hw legacy

"I really wish we could stop politicizing the topic of AI." Some thoughts on the use of generative AI in video games. Recently, it was revealed that a game many of us, myself included, called Neverness to Everness, was using generative AI to produce various assets. Some of these include posters and billboards around the city, but more egregious examples are several AI animations featured on screens around the ingame world. Even moreso, several creators and a voice actress have come out stating that they were assured by the company that no AI was used in the game. Of course, there was a lot of outrage. And I have to admit, I was pretty disappointed. I was disappointed that a game that I enjoyed so much, is now going to be tainted by this extremely toxic debate, when they could have so easily avoided it. Simply do what other games have done. Commission a few animations, and re-use some assets from other games. They could very easily have just put advertisements for their other game, Tower of Fantasy, or other Perfect World titles. It would have been prime real estate to advertise their other games, and include easter eggs. Hell, even product placement ads would have been perfectly logical in a game such as this. Many companies would have paid a lot of money to have their products and advertisements featured in a big city game like this. And yet, they chose the path of generative AI. And with that choice, they have flagged what was turning out to be a happy and fun new gaming experience, into yet another situation where we have to debate about the ethics of AI. Let me make certain that my opinion is clear on the matter of AI. As the owner of an art studio, I am not a fan of it. I think AI art is lazy, lacks soul, and cheapens the world of creative art and entertainment. In short, I believe it harms creatives, and the overwhelming prevalence of AI entertainment online, will worsen the experience for audiences. And although it may sound extreme, it's my opinion that humanity would be better off if generative AI art, animation, and video would be outlawed entirely. However, I am not a fan of the current state of the debate, and how toxic it has become. Currently, it has very much become a war of ideologies. Those who are Anti-AI believe we should entirely boycott all games and companies that even attempts to dabble in AI, while others are either pro-AI usage for various reasons, or simply believe that those who are anti-AI are annoying and so seek to be contrarian because of it. It has become very much a red versus blue issue, on the internet, I fear. And I really wish it wouldn't. I wish we would all stand on the same side, and understand that no matter which political tribe you belong to, it is bad for all of us. For all artists and enjoyers of art alike. Right now, I've seen many people say that Neverness to Everness is tainted. That any attempt the company may make to course-correct, will not matter to them. I genuinely feel that this is the wrong approach. All that does, is embolden the other side. "See? They'll never be happy anyway," and encourage the company to continue their usage of AI. The company will feel that the opinion of those who dislike AI cannot shift for them, and so they will not bother. But I would rather a company realize their mistake, and try to get the ENTIRETY of the community's support back, by changing the assets they used, than have the bridge be burnt altogether. In the last year or so, I've seen the public sentiment shift away from being almost majority anti-AI to more and more people expressing pro-AI sentiment for reasons of contrarianism. I really don't want people to become ambivalent towards AI usage, and become convinced that those who hold an anti-AI stance are "overreacting." I wish we could extend a hand to developers who use AI, and show them a better path, rather than shun and blacklist them. Many likely don't know better, or have been presented with a false reality, and if we assume malice rather than ignorance, they will only be pushed away for good. We need to show a human approach. Because preserving the human approach is the very reason why AI will forever be inferior to the human spirit.

@Manahbee I feel like a lot of this ends up being self defeating. By being super openly against the thing, they end up bringing more light to it than anything else. Like, starting a flame war on sight? just makes people look petty and childish. I literally discovered it due to bashing.

@Femboywrestling Imma be super real with you, winging about the game like this is how I discovered the sequel exists at all. So your ego massaging actions have done nothing but signal boost the game. Plus, being so immediately abrasive has also clearly made people want to buy it out of spite.

@emkenobi Of course not, that's not the point, neither of the game, nor the examples of being a parent. Its to show the upside in a world obsessed with focusing on the negative. If it inspires people to want to be a good parent, or a good dad, attentive and all that. Isn't that a net good?

Watching a fictional kid play with toys for a few seconds and thinking that’s what it’s like raising an actual human being is probably a sign you have zero idea what it really looks like being a parent and should not base your decision off of a video game character.
NikTek@NikTek

If Capcom's goal with Pragmata was to make everyone who plays this game want to be a parent, then they've done an amazing job. I always sit back when Diana starts playing and think to myself "so this is what is like having a daughter" She's so cute

@contra_psych Its the difference between telling a joke and explaining why the joke works. Its a similar dichotomy as idealism, usually seen as optimistic (humans are good) and cynicism (humans are responsible for untold numbers of highly intentional cruel acts, and pretend they arent)

@SirBylHolte I mean, it certainly captures the narrative weight of, "gitl who lost all her people and is in grieving. Per the comics (which I assume this will follow somewhat.) She was old enough to know what that meant. What I DO hope is they write her as being likeable. Thats all.

Here’s the thing: James Gunn’s Supergirl could have started out HAPPY. She could be a non-drinker. She could sing in the choir. She could mentor young girls. She could be in a loving relationship with a good man. She could have a genuinely wonderful life… …and then, when something threatens Earth, she springs into action. That’s what a true hero does. Instead, she’s the opposite of all that — a hard-drinking, cynical, messed-up anti-hero with heavy baggage. And we’re apparently supposed to root for her JUST because she’s a woman. But here's the other thing: she's NOT a woman. She's the angry feminist's caricature of a woman. Not hot enough to attract the male gaze. Not feminine enough to bring the female audience. In other words: FLOP INCOMING.

@retneysholocron This whole sequence was very well done. I don't think anyone should deny that, though I know some will. What I will say is, we don't really see this level of character be presented consistently through the movie. This part of her character isn't really leveraged past finn's intro

@helcaboyakh I mean, I hate to be that guy, but China runs on a uniparty system. So like, it's really about the priorities of the leader, not the system. It just so happens that Shi having absolute power means things he wants done get done with little regard to anything else really.

@MizutamariVT the entire western fanbase is certainly untrue. Many grew up when the stuff was being licensed for dub in their home country. Pokemon, Yugioh and DBZ are all shows that were locally serialized in the early days, which led to the rise of the majority of the early fandom.

If you watch an ostensibly "educational" YT video and immediately assume that everything the author is saying is correct and cannot be criticized, you're an NPC. This also applies to books. In general, if you are consuming media and you are unable to evaluate the ideas being presented yourself and cannot see validity in any interpretations other than the one presented by the author, you're no better than a dog waiting for a ball to be thrown.
