@SpookiestMars

I'm bad at video games but I love talking/yelling about them. We're here for a good time so let's have one together. Smite fan, Soulsborne addict, caster. :)

All the responses to this amount to 'yes DM please prepare a whole story and each session for us but also be ready to improvise everything on the spot the second my attention span comes to end and no you cannot ask me to play along with what you wanted to do a single time'
Shady Doorags@shadydoorags

If a DM wants to draw attention to a room, I think that's fine and dandy, but when he does it exclusively after the player chose to ignore the room, while not a horrendous way to DM, that ultimately has some consequences I feel should be avoided. For one, you've gone against player agency which can be very annoying. Second, you're teaching your players that whenever they accidentally avoid something important, you will point it out to them. You're taking the responsibility of them noticing important things and putting it on yourself, which will cause them to stop trying to look for important things altogether. Part of what makes exploration fun is the chance of disappointment. There could be a great treasure, there could be nothing, or there could be something, but it's not worth getting. You lose something when you always know the valuable rewards of exploring. I've had a giant rant in me for a long time about how modern gaming in both tabletops and video games has somehow filled itself with people who struggle whenever given too much freedom, as well as those that can't handle the concept of consequences, which in turn has lead to devs, dm, etc, creating games with less actual freedom and/or consequences. Essentially, Fallout 4 vs Fallout New Vegas. Almost, if not all gaming should have at least SOME direction, but I feel like my line for where things get invasive is way lower than the average modern gamer. Admittedly, my experience in modern gaming is severely limited (hence me using Fallout 4 as an example), so maybe my anecdotal perspective isn't the best out there.

It's gone unsaid for too long, but I will be the brave one to say what we've all been thinking Dragonite is such a downgrade from Dragonair as an evolution

@fredemonium @diecou @OVTweetmarck Okay, so it's based on how you perceive it then. That's fine, but I have to agree we have fundamentally different views on what art is. I appreciate you taking the time to provide some clarity :)

One thing I think that is good to admit and note as someone who enjoys video games greatly and does not think them inherently bad in any sense is that a downside to them is unlike many hobbies, they produce no lasting product (compare to say writing, painting, and the like).

Idk man I thought bloodbornes religious themes and commentary were WAYYYYYY more apparent than the motherhood stuff but it’s the consensus of the fandom so it’s useless arguing that it’s way more on display and less hidden to the player

The devs have stated clearly they wanted everyone to have the same experience and overcome the same challenges. That is an integral part of the art to them and it should be respected
RIN@Rin_Vixen

All Soulsborne games have dogshit accessibility options and should have basic functions like a pause button and a difficulty selector to allow for those with less function to experience the art that they are. And before you come at me, I have beaten every single one solo.

Also I feel like calling it more than that gives too much away about the game when it does so exceptionally well at slowly revealing more and more about what's going on, telling all before someone starts is a waste

It's both It is a game about hunting monsters with themes that run much deeper and has a much more profound story, but someone calling it a game about hunting monsters is still correct because monster-killing is the main gameplay you engage with
beasthaus.@modormouth

bloodborne is a source material that sledgehammers you in the face with the themes of visceral womanhood. menses as a central theme. only for ppl to see bborne as the game where you hunt down long beasts.
