@mcuban The real issue is you cannot contend without a top 10 player. If you dont have one of those its smarter to tank for one thn waste $$$ on middling talent aka Kings/Bulls.

When you flatten the odds, the number of trades will explode. It was impossible to know who would win the tankathon in the off season, and the leading tankers aren’t trading their picks at the deadline BUT you can have a good idea who isn’t a top 8 team in your conference. And teams will do everything they can to trade for their firsts. Get 2 non playoff firsts in a draft, and you have a good shot of having better odds than the bottom 3 this year. And even 2 picks at 5.4 pct each, makes you the equal of a tankathon 4 or 5 team. The question is what puts you in a position to trade for 1sts? Cap room at the deadline. Teams that were headed to the 2nd apron and needed saving. Give me that future first. Willingness to trade good players. Want my best player. We aren’t going anywhere this season. Give me that future first. I think the games to stay out of the bottom 3 will be fun. I think the protection limits are smart. Don’t want teams in the playin making decisions on draft vs win. @sidvicious03 Interesting. At 24 and an elite shooter you wouldn't rather the trio of ANT / Wemby / Harper? Long term the spurs cannot afford Fox with the 2 guards so you're essentially choosing Castle > Edwards in a vacuum. Edwards is arguable the best 2 guard in the league and under 25.

@SportingPhil Hell no. Year 2 castle gonna be even better. One of the best perimeter defenders in the league while being dangerous on offense. Shot will come. Ant has hamstring problems and this is probably as good as he is gonna be.

@Cavsanada I get that... but its also with analytics. It doesn't pay to be the Kings. I almost think there should be a talent evaluation again draft teams. Like if I have a top 20 player... the highest I should ever be able to draft is say 10. That or more cap room for non havers.

@tomhaberstroh Realistically the issues isn't tanking. It's you need a top 10 player and 2 top 20 players to win. If you dont have those you may as well tank. Finding ways for teams who do not have one to have a larger salary cap for more top 60 players might help balancing.
