I went on to spend hours with other people counting and cross-checking the cash received after the end of events, to make sure it was all double-checked. The attitude at the top of the SNP to people raising concerns on a much bigger scale jars at the most basic level.

I suspect lots of us are bringing this sort of experience to our response to all this. The gap between how seriously many people have taken the accounts of much smaller things with of much more limited interest and the way the SNP leadership behaved is doing our heads in./
