@ClawsFurHire this is also not an issue of the writing, outside of some wording issues I think the writing for Sonic here is not the problem
it's how the art POTRAYS said writing that I have issue with

People keep forgetting that by this point Sonic is completely sleep deprived and has been running for a while now, not to mention under a LOT of mental stress.
If he looks "wimpy" it's because he is at his weakest point...

my biggest issue with Sonic's doubt in IDW 23 is how the art conveys his emotions and less of the writing his expressions and body language paint his moments of doubt and pressure as him being wimpy and scared which is completely OOC for Sonic

@SrBeatnik When I see TMOSTH and Riders arc amy I just see the Amy people hated in X and the rest of the 2000's. I fail to see why it's suddenly better in the recent examples when its just the bare minimum her character has always maintained since she reappeared as a mainstay in 1998 🤷♀️

we need to accept that when you give Sega an inch, they take 100 miles. At first it was just Frontiers "helping ground her character for a new era of Sonic". Then it was changing her bio and animations in a Generations' rerelease. Now it's erasing her reason for existing.

It's not terrible but it's an odd change. They're clearly dialling down her crush on Sonic. It's a trait I guess she can live without but only as long as she still gets to be the feisty, candid, giggly ditz we all know and love.

@SrBeatnik It's one thing to tone it down, like I could take or leave either text bubbles, they're both fine. But being so thorough to completely delete all traces of it here is just totally bizarre

So, the 35th anniversary version of the "Welcome to the World of Sonic" book was changed from the 2021 version to completely remove all of Amy's feelings for Sonic 😶.

@SrBeatnik Amy is not a person, she is a fictional character, she clearly still had wants and needs but she loves Sonic at the core of it all. The games used that core to tell stories with her, this is how every character in the series operates but people extrapolated fake meaning with Amy

@MaritheKity and just to make this clear, I do not think just completely removing her love with Sonic is the right move cuz it’s just not 😭
But a balance can exist, I think IDW and TMOSTH Amy are near perfect examples of how I think Amy should be handled

@MaritheKity AND I GET THAT, but it feels like her character past a certain point was entirely defined by her connection to Sonic and not her as a person
The adventure games still had her love Sonic but she still had a clearly defined character and development

@MaritheKity While localization 100% made her worse, JP Amy still has the same core issues I have with Amy’s previous character past like SA2, making her love of Sonic take up too much of her character or just doing nothing interesting with her past Heroes
