It's hard to believe that if you were standing outside what is now Boots on 22nd May 1455 you would have been risking your life in a medieval battle. Join our Wars of the Roses walk to find out more. Book through our website stalbanstourguides.co.uk/calendar

Today, as part of a programme of valuing St Albans’ heritage, a blue plaque sticker was applied to a window at 16 George St. The sticker explains the history of the building and is the first in a programme of stickers that will extend to most of the buildings in the street.

The decaying medieval west front of St Albans cathedral was entirely remodelled in Victorian times by Lord Grimthorpe, whose name became a byword for unsympathetic restoration. While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I rather like it.

Remembering archaeologist Sheppard Frere #OnThisDay (1916-2015). Today we want to highlight his role in helping develop a method for transporting mosaics, rolling them like a carpet! Covering the mosaic with an adhesive held it together. 🔗 from 1958 (£) buff.ly/3U8xZVX
