In Apr 1929 explorer Lady 'Dolly' Mills returned from 4 mths in French & Portuguese Guinea, surviving many hazards. Widely feted afterwards. In a cruel irony, in June she went to #Ascot & was badly hurt in taxi crash. My bk No Country for a Woman @TheHistoryPress #History #women

Thanks to @Sherlock_Pages for a great description of my book on their website eg. 'a captivating biography' whose 'mesmerizing narrative captures Dolly's spirit'. They really 'get' Dolly: she 'was not just an explorer; she was a pioneering storyteller' etc. Yes! #History #women

From upper-class gal & 'useless creature' (her words), to fearless explorer & feted travel writer. Lady 'Dolly' Mills (nee Walpole) 'was a pioneer & those of us who have followed stand on her shoulders' (The Spectator) @TheHistoryPress #women #History #Travel

I’m looking for academic literature recommendations which cover the #history of early #orchards in England. Material is thin on the ground but I’m hoping that I might have missed something. All suggestions gladly received. Thank you!

Good to see my book reviewed in @TheTLS just in time for #InternationalWomensDay2025, ‘Readers of this rich biography will be rewarded with an evocative insight into Anne's unique life as a perceptive and persevering scholar at the Tudor court.’

It was fabulous to speak at Peterborough Cathedral’s wonderful Katharine of Aragon festival. I spoke on Queen Making: Catherine of Aragon, Princess Mary and the Reigning Queens of Spain. My talk was also sponsored by the Spanish Embassy, which was a huge honour #peterboroughcathedral #catherineofaragon

I stopped by Stratford upon Avon’s Guild Chapel today to take another look at its phenomenal surviving medieval wall paintings. Fun fact: William Shakespeare’s father was in charge of their whitewashing following the Reformation. He clearly didn’t do a very thorough job! #guildchapel #stratforduponavon #shakespeare #williamshakespeare

#OTD in 1536 death of Catherine of Aragon at Kimbolton. The daughter of two reigning monarchs, Catherine was married to Henry VIII for 24 years (with his remaining five marriages squeezed into the final fourteen years of his life). Highly educated and capable, Catherine served as regent in 1513, while she also raised her daughter in the hope that she would one day reign #catherineofaragon #queen #henryviii #tudor #onthisday

I am thrilled to be speaking at Peterborough Cathedral’s Katherine of Aragon Festival on Sunday 26 January. The line up is fantastic! I’m speaking on Queen Making: Katherine of Aragon, Princess Mary and the Reigning Queens of Spain, which ties in with my forthcoming book on reigning queenship: Women Who Ruled the World (out in September). There are still a few tickets available! @historywithjackson #katherineofaragon #catherineofaragon #katharineofaragon #peterborough
