The MORE you find SSPX's 'Declaration of Faith' objectionless - from a standpoint of someone who accepts the teaching of the current post-conciliar Catechism of the Catholic Church - the MORE you should hold the SSPX BLAMEWORTHY for pursuing schism on spurious, fatuous grounds.

Schismatics, despite professing 'Jesus is Christ' with their lips, deny Him by their deeds, their schism.
So do many of us by sin.

@StMichael71 The claim is heresy is taught, preached; yet no one is referred to as a heretic. Logically, it’s a difficult position to maintain.

If their Declaration were entirely without fault, and consistent with current Church teaching, then the sin against charity, schism, would be that much more obvious.

@StMichael71 No, the sin of schism has to do with charity not doctrine. Read St. Augustine against the Donatists.

@MichaelMcH76753 Thomas Aquinas, the Fathers of Trent, Bellarmine are all clearly of the mind that the Church hierarchical - that is, the Pope and the bishops in communion with him - is the proper judge of what counts as orthodox, rather than you.

@MichaelMcH76753 The Roman Catholic Church, which endorsed and promulgated that Catechism, is a better judge of what constitutes orthodoxy than you are.

[I could add their claims about salvation outside the Church seem to equivocate on Feenyite positions - that is, they seem to imply nobody is saved without water baptism and explicit profession of the Faith - but I've left these aside, as Lefebrve endorsed baptism of desire.]

But, of course, if all the SSPX were to want was to affirm doctrine that is compatible with the current Catchecism and Vatican II, then there is no dogmatic reason for the SSPX NOT to accept Vatican II and the Catechism, and no reason for them to ordain their own priests/bishops.
