@HelenXiaoyuLu couldn't come to Houston to accept her @RiceSSPB thesis award, so I brought it to her in Seattle!

Congrats to @HelenXiaoyuLu, an outstanding recent lab alum who won a @RiceSSPB thesis award 🏆! Xiaoyu is now a Scientist at @AllenInstitute and so couldn't attend. I attempted to accept on her behalf, disguised with her face on cardboard🎭, but my cover was blown quickly!

@weinberz Bioengineers are developing fluorescent proteins (FPs) for many applications: superresolution microscopy, photo labeling, FRET biosensors, extended timescale imaging, etc. It's great if your lab is well served by existing FPs, but we need to consider the broader community.
