One of the most reliable ways to improve our mental health is to help others. After being randomly assigned to do just 3 acts of kindness a week, people felt significantly less depressed, anxious, and lonely. Lifting others up elevates us too. Giving shows us that we matter.

Remembering the first woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize, the first individual to be awarded two Nobel Prizes and still today the only individual with two Nobel Prizes in two different scientific categories: Marie Skłodowska Curie. Curie was born #OnThisDay in 1867.

Abusive bosses don't drive performance. They undermine it. 471 studies, 149k people, 36 countries: in aggressive workplaces, we do poorer work, collaborate less, and shirk more. Incivility breaks confidence and breeds resentment. The best way to get results is to show respect.

Every year the UQ school of psychology challenges students (and staff) to transform their lecture material and research topics into art. Today, we showcased nearly 50 entries at the Psychology As Art Exhibition. @UQPsych Congratulations to all the winners!

Trump just said he did a great job on the pandemic but that's a complete lie. We have a new paper analyzing how he handled the pandemic and it was an absolute disaster. You can read our paper here: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/17…

A prospective PhD student should look for a kind and understanding mentor, not necessarily the most brilliant one or someone working at a prestigious institution. A kind mentor will focus on your progress and work to uplift you.

Want happier, healthier kids? Offer them autonomy. Massive new meta-analysis makes it plain: In every culture, control leaves children worse off — but autonomy helps them people engage, learn, and grow.

Gallup data shows half of all employees are eyeing a new job, but 42% of turnover is preventable. Regular feedback, career development opportunities, and a positive work culture are key to retaining talent and preventing costly replacement hiring #IOPsych gallup.com/workplace/6465…

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but in my experience on hiring committees: High-quality publications are more important than quantity. I look for candidates who are kind, collegial, modest, and will contribute to a positive culture at work. #AcademicTwitter
