I think one of the biggest misconceptions we as coaches have is that it’s about X’s and O’s. It’s about experiences, we are paid life coaches and tour guides. Where I am from many wouldn’t have touched a pencil, read a book, sat in class, woke up for school, etc. without the game of basketball. I think the art and love of the game is kinda being buried but not by the players but more so the men and women that are supposed to be guiding them through it. We often make it about us and that’s not what this game is about, it’s about delivering an experience and guiding these kids. You see it a lot at the high school level, coaches chasing city and state titles but it’s not for the kids, they do it for popularity amongst their circles and peers. This isn’t an indictment that we all do it but more so a wake up call to those that do. The kids come first if you remember that you’ve already won. Remember that and you’ll find it much easier to be secure and also look yourself in the mirror, be proud and say I made a difference in someone’s life. Good day ALL!!!
