There's an old idea that says a man is tested three times before he earns anything worth having. The first test takes what he loves. The second test takes his confidence. The third test makes him wait with no proof that it's coming. Most men fail the third one. Not because they're weak. Because patience with no guarantee is the hardest thing a human being can do. If you're in the waiting room right now, don't move. Don't panic. Just hold.

ALERT: Three gunmen opened fire on a home in Tacoma, WA, and fired more than 50 rounds in seconds while residents were asleep. A bullet tore through her ankle, while others grazed her arm and chest right near her heart. She was rushed to the hospital where doctors treated her multiple gunshot wounds. There are no aliens. Even if there were (and there aren't) they would have no way of getting here. The distances are simply too vast. Far, far too vast. The nearest star outside of our own sun is 4.2 light-years away. No aliens, no matter how clever, will ever be able to travel anywhere near the speed of light. The laws of physics prevent it. To accelerate any mass at all (even a pebble) to anything approaching even 1/3rd the speed of light would take incomprehensibly vast amounts of energy. You need a lot of spaceship (and I mean YUGE) to hold that much energy. So, now you've got a heck of a lot more than a pebble to move. Your energy problem just got infinitely worse. It's impossible folks. ET ain't out there, and even if he was, he ain't dropping by for a visit.

At 53 ,I've buried friends, raised kids, survived layoffs, and watched the world change faster than I could keep up. Work never gave me "purpose." It gave me a paycheck, health insurance, and a reason to get out of bed when depression hit. The real purpose? It was in the quiet stuff: teaching my sons to drive, fixing the neighbor's fence, reading history books at 2am, coaching Little League even when my back screamed. If UBI ever comes and we don't have to grind 9-to-5 just to eat and keep the lights on, most people won't collapse into nihilism. They'll finally have time to remember who they were before the world told them their value was their productivity. We've survived without mandatory jobs for most of human history. We'll figure it out again.

What if universal basic income becomes real, and the hardest job left is figuring out why you wake up?
