In reality, CRW groups have structural advantages (tech, data, rebates, timing) that act like "non-public information" and superior processing power. Add on the inside info and it's game over.

If this were like back in the old days when many of the top horses ran back in the Preakness, the horse that I would want to play back is Danon Bourbon and it’s not even close. That horse looks like the most talented horse in the field. It will be fun to follow him going forward.

Mine that Bird ran very creditably in the Preakness and Belmont and yesterday's winner probably better. Seeing comments about never winning again or fluke.

@belmostickey @Rennietime Exactly right. Just look at the race chart and see what being near that pace meant. Another reason as mentioned earlier what a great race Danon Bourbon ran. Horse would win Preakness by 5 if has anything left after that race.

@Rennietime Ironically, though, I think it helped him. If he'd not been bodyslammed, Renegade would probably have been closer to the pace, where he'd have been consumed by the fractions, like the rest up there. The bad luck put him in the best spot. The Derby is a weird race, man.

@SotoSocial Big race days at all the name tracks are usually a chalk fest. The derby itself is such a unique race. One of few that closers have a good chance and it's usually the pace meltdowns that lead to the prices. Unfortunately I didn't play the closers. Live up to my horoscope.

@Starks43 You don’t see $22,000 tris very often at those tracks. Aqueduct unplayable. 5 horse fields, all chalk, CAWs. But I’m atypical. I only play 3/4 Tracks or days. I can’t play everything. I’m bad enough.

What’s the Bloody Mary, hair of the dog, version of horse racing after the Kentucky Derby? Hawthorne and its $5K claimed doesn’t really quench the thirst. It’s like drinking Zima after a night of Dom Perignon.
